Expecting (more like hoping) a huge pre-season for Latu, Tallyn, Kit Laulilii & Faagutu whose seasons didn't quite go as planned this year.

If they aren't moved off, you would also hope Matamua & To'a put in absolute belters of pre-seasons in what could be last chance saloon for them.

Api, Bird & Royce Hunt in relatively early in the pre-season will help push the standards too!
Fa'agutu is the one for me.

If he doesn't feature much this year, it will be a fair sign that his trajectory has disappeared. Injuries or not last year, he should've been pushing harder for at least some Cup time.

I'm hoping it was to allow him time to transition to playing prop more regularly than lock, but I really hope he kicks on, because he's quite a talent in my opinion.

Is this Joel Caine?
Havent listen yet but heard him on radio mention this a few weeks back.
Roosters reserve graders shaming our 1st graders in the early days

It is....
He's mentioned it in multiple messages / stories over the years
- This is a new one that I hadn't heard.

Sometimes the best trainers are the guys on the edge of first-grade or the younger boys that are desperate to get a spot.

Man
- A kid that has been in School 5 days a week,
Shouldn't be towelling up young blokes that are training 6hrs a day.
Backs maybe going around some forwards or some blokes, But shouldn't be winning everything.

Most fringe players are part timers as well,
They shouldn't be coming in and showing up the supposed club leaders.

There's the odd card out of the pack - No doubt....
You can fob it off if you like, But the problem is there.
It's always been there...

We had the same player come back to the club at the back end of his career
after 18 months at a rival club and towell them up.

I've said it more than once....
But I think without generational players in Marshall and Farah (With a bit of luck),
And the Steel of Gareth Ellis

This club would never have made the finals....

OK just flog everyone in training and we'll win everything. Case closed..

agreed
fitness doesnt correlate to being a great player on the field either.
It’s hugely important though. That grand final was an absolute battle of attrition and the Panthers game plan to tire out the Storms middles was amazing.

Helps if the referee keeps their whistle in their pocket (which WT didn’t experience this year).

Heartbreaking.....
The 3 Squad fillers Sheens bought from the Roosters that came in and whipped our experienced
Blokes have careers of a combined 34 NRL games...

How low are we?

It wasn't heartbreaking 2 years later batboy. Beep tests measure V02max, not toughness.

Being super fit doesn't make you a great player - But it does lean into your work ethic and desire....
Which can make you a great player.

Almost certain you'll find more evidence of super fit blokes of limited talent having great careers
than Super talents with zero fitness having the same...

Harder to get 100% out of yourself, when you're far from your best self - In anything, Not just Football.

I remember in the off season last year Api and Benji talked about how training finishes earlier than other clubs and they can go home and see their families.

That's all nice and fluffy but every club should be striving to work harder than the opposition. The results speak for themselves and it's no surprise players underperform out this club.

Nathan Cleary just won 4 comps in a row.....
Ask him how many times he dips out early at Training

They're on record as saying that there is a number of areas that have been observed in 2024 that will be focussed on this preseason.

Conditioning has been mentioned several times. As has contact/ruck control.

They'll be better.
