Games lost on goalkicking

Bulldogs - R8
Souths - R10
Broncos - R11
Parra - R24
Titans - R25

Five games there which a significant reason we lost was due to goalkicking. In the Dogs, Souths, Broncos and Parra games we scored 4 tries each while the Titans game had it not been for goalkicking we wouldnt of had to search for points at the end and hand the titans that last try.

You can also add the Storm game where we scored two tries each and lost at melbourne.

So six games where we scored the same amount of tries as the opposition but lost…. How many games did we win this year where we scored the same - 1, against Manly.

Desperately need a goalkicker. Its too important part not to have someone kicking at 80%. Marshall is too hit and miss, the only time im confident he will get them is when we are up by 18+ and he slots them from everywhere when the pressures off.

Everyone knows we don't have a good goalkicker, and its vital we get one. We have but he's to scared of hurting his foot and he's off to the sharks next year.

If we'd kept Hodgo and ran with:

1\. Hodgo

6\. Beni

7\. Moltzen

GK: Hodgo

All season = we'd be a top 4 team.

Letting Hodgo go has cost us dramatically.

in the off-season, get the man himself Hasam El-Magic to teach at least three wests-tigers players to kick goals.

when you think about it goal kicking really shouldnt cost us.. the last 2 teams that won the comp had crap kickers Orford and Smith, I guess its because we just choke the close games

Before this weekend we'd actually scored the most tries in the NRL, but were about 5th in points scored.

Go figure.

The Dogs had 30 points on us, and we had scored more tries.

Sorry Benji, but you aren't reliable enough.

I don't understand why they have continued with Benji as our first line goal kicker. What was his seasons average. Would have to be one of the lowest in the comp.

I know Lawrence, Gallant and Collis can kick.

Mate, don't forget that Hodgo didn't play or kick that well for us last year.

the fullback for under 20's is a goal kicker.
he is also leading the u20s comp in tries scored and points scored. he had scored 13 tires in 6 games and 22 for the season.
i have watched him play and he seems safe unfer the high ball and has good positioning.
if gallant isnt the go for 2010 then i reckon we put the current u20s fullback into first grade, lotz at 7, benj at 6.
canberra got a little known fullback after losing zillman and heis killing it. dugan his name is. he is excellent at the back.
why can we not do the same n give a talented young player the chance to step up in a position he is used to.
when gallant got injured we should have slotted him stright in. instead we reshuffled the whole team n lost the following 2 games.

Maybe a good offseason of practise and he could be the man for the job next year.

Get on the phone to El-Magic and get him working with Marshall and the 2nd and 3rd string goal kickers over the off/pre-season

Lazarus can kick them from everywhere. Lawrence is an 80% er. COllis is an 85% er but his leg injury held him back.

Rest assured, plenty of teams can look back and say kicking cost them matches.

Well I guess we all agree that either get El Magic to become kicking coach (which he probably stay on as for the dogs) or find someone else to kick. Benji can concentrate on "the step" then.

Its nothing about goal kicking, its about picking a team that will not buckle when the torch is applied. We need some players who not only can do the flashy stuff but also do the hard stuff. Ellis and Farah are excused from this, they already do the work of five other players each. I think because this team has so many trys in them, they always think their going to attack their way out of trouble. Seldom works Iam afraid and for it to work Sheens has to supply and pick the right cattle.

beau ryan is terrible and adds nothing

we would be better off having a nuffy out there who is a gun goal kicker. shop around the nswrl and qld cup for an 80% goal kicker who can catch and pass. wouldnt be too hard.
