Geale's a great fighter, but I'm better: The Man

SYDNEY: Anthony Mundine won't accept that Daniel Geale is a better boxer than when they last fought three years ago even though he's won two world titles since.
Mundine was talking the talk at a media conference today after securing a fight for Geale's IBF belt in Sydney in January.
Thirty one-year-old Geale, the IBF and WBA champion, has lost just once in a 29 fight career, but it's that one controversial defeat to Mundine in 2009 he's looking to make up for.
The Tasmanian has pulled off stunning victories in the past 18 months over Germans Felix Sturm and Sebastian Sylvester, both in Germany, to win his world crowns.
While Geale said he was a much better fighter than the one who lost a controversial split points decision in their last meeting, 37-year-old Mundine disagreed.
"I don't believe he's a better fighter than he was then," Mundine said.
"Sylvester? I'd beat him with one hand. I'd beat Sturm all day.
"I respect Daniel Geale and what he's done. I respect him.
"Time and time again he's proven himself. But we have one problem - I'm better."
Geale said the January fight wasn't about revenge.
"In that first fight, I was still young, fairly raw," he said.
"To me, it's not about revenge. It's about setting things right.
"I don't have anything spiteful about him. I believe I'm a much better fighter than I was then."
Mundine has won 19 of his past 20 fights and is hopeful a victory in Sydney will rejuvenate his push into America.
His last loss was to unheralded reality tv show competiion winner Garth Wood in 2010.
A venue for the Mundine-Geale bout is likely to be decided in the next fortnight, while a date is also yet to be locked in.

In my opinion Geale was robbed when they first fought & i'm looking forward to this fight in January. I have followed Geale's career & i can't speak highly enough about him, every time I've seen or heard him talk he comes across so humble & such a class act. I remember when they interviewed him just after his last victory in Germany & they asked him would he fight Mundine next as he is the only boxer that has beaten him & he said that he has never dodged a fighter & he would talk with his management about his next opponent.

In Sydney I hope Geale does not let it go to the scorecards.

Hope he brings in three O/S judges personally

Sam Soliman was robbed against Mundine as well, it's the one thing that gives boxing a bad name is the dodgy decisions from time to time but amateur boxing at the olympics takes the cake. Geale is holding all the aces & has everything to lose so i would hazard a quess Mundine either agreed to all of Geale's terms if he wanted to fight him. Geale is going to be interviewed on Talkin Sport on 2SM today around 5.30pm if anyone's interested.

ALWAYS a beacon for controversy, boxer Anthony Mundine has used the launch of his long-awaited rematch with Daniel Geale as an opportunity to question his opponent's heritage.
>
When asked today about the fact that Geale, a Tasmanian of indigenous heritage and the current IBF and WBA super-middleweight champion, wore an Aboriginal flag on his trunks, Mundine said: "I thought they wiped all the Aborigines from Tasmania out.
>
He's got a white woman, he's got white kids. I keep it real, all day every day.
>
"That's all I know . . . I don't know, I don't see him representing black people, or coloured people. I don't see him in the communities, I don't see him doing the things I do to people, and fighting for the people. But he's his own man.
>

>
"I respect him as a gentleman, I respect him as a fighter.
>
"That's why we're here; we're here to settle the score, and see who's going to be the best."
>
Geale, who lost a controversial split decision to Mundine in 2009, responded to the jibe by saying he was proud of his heritage.
>
"I have a lot of respect for the Aboriginal people," Geale said. "My heritage is down in Tasmania. I've done a fair bit of research. I love my heritage, and I'm proud to show that. If anyone tries to tell me that I've got no right to do that, then something bad will happen. Trust me."
>
No date or venue have been set for the fight, although it is likely to take place in January. Mundine was typically outspoken, saying he wanted to "exterminate" Geale.
>
"I'm looking to dominate the fight . . . and when I'm ready [I'll] finish him," Mundine said.
>
"I just want to exterminate him. No one can beat me. That's why I took this fight, to prove that the last one wasn't a fluke. I'm going to prove I'm the man."

I don't doubt Mundine's talent & i'm sure it was probably meant as tongue in cheek & only intended to get under Geale's skin, but i just can't cop Mundine's outlandish statement's. I relies it's part of boxing & they would love someone as brash as Mundine in America but i personally like our boxer's that do there talking in the ring.

Class act Mundine is…bagging Geale because he has a white woman and kids. Is that not racism???? (Mundine is always the first to play the race card whenever it suits himself but also usually the first person to have a hissy-fit when it is directed at him.)
Hope Geale beats the stuffing out of this pretender once and for all.... really busts him up.

Go Dan, you beat him the first time in many people's eyes, this time knock the bludger out so there can be no dodgy decision this time.

Geale is just about the classiest champion that Aussie sport has, hope he continues to dominate and make Aussies proud, unlike Mundane.

It had to happen sooner or later. Mundine has kissed his career good bye. At least it is to another Aussie, and because I am an Aussie/European/Asian blood, I will look at it another way - Mundine will be handing over the torch. Good luck to them both - but Geale is the real deal. Mundine's fairytale days are numbered. What will Mundine do next? His father is a very good man. I hope Anthony will use his fame and fortune for good. Life is too short.

Geale deserves better than cheap trickery and petty fake drama.

Save that for Green, Mundine etc who just want to bilk all the money they can out of the average fight fans pocket.

For the record i hope Geale destroys Mundine.
BUT…...........

im sick of this widespread misconception that Geale was robbed in their last fight. People hear it said once and because of their dislike of Mundine the thought just grows and grows. The judges cop a bagging but in my opinion anyone who goes around stating that Geale was robbed is the poor judge (or allow personal feelings to cloud their judgement). It was a very good fight and one that if you watched 3 times you could get three different scores. I'd say the knockdown is what got Mundine over the line. For me, i scored it a draw, so without the knockdown Geale wins by 2 points. Now thats a close fight that could go either way so theres no reason at all for all the crap being said the last 3 years about being robbed.

On this fight, Geale will win. By points if Mundine runs and runs, or by stoppage if the Man stands toe to toe.

Fair enough KS but put me down as a poor judge then, my opinion that Geale was robbed is based on watching that fight & not on hear say or my opinion of Mundine as a person. I also believe Soliman was robbed as well against him. Sometimes decisions can go either way depending how judges score the fight ( i.e scoring punches v heavier cleaner punches) i wouldn't of been surprised if Geale's last fight was a draw.

Has Mundine pushed for the fight to be in QLD?

Might come down to which state is prepared to cough up the most coin? Geale didn't give away any hints which state the fight will be when he was on radio this arvo.

He won't put his name to a bill like this, much less a rematch against someone he beat, unless he thinks he's a chance.

Fancy questioning Geale's heritage, what a low blow…

No doubt Mundine believes he will/can win, every boxer has to, otherwise you've lost before you've even got in the ring. Won't have any troubles promoting this fight.

I watched the fight and believe that Geale won it (just)…has nothing to do with not liking Mundine. If I thought Mundine won I would have no hesitation in saying so. I would guess that a majority of the people who watched the first fight would say that they thought Geale won.

I'm another poor judge,I'm not saying I'm a know it all but i am a major boxing fan and have been for years,Geale was robbed imo as was Sam Solomon when he fought mundine the 1st time, mundine and green have been nothing but a joke the last few years with the crap that comes out of there mouths so it's good that geale is finally getting the recognition he deserves as he is not only a great fighter but a bloke I'm proud to have represent Australia…..put this clown into retirement Danny

Mundines a racist prick, always has been.. I think it's called reverse racism when it's against white ppl, which is odd in itself, like only white ppl can be guilty of racism. I hope he gets smashed into retirement.
