Does the arrival of grant spell the end of utai? And where does that leave ryan and brown in the pecking order.I will wait with baited breath to see how the coach lines that lot up, your thoughts please. :bash :crazy

Is Grant confirmed? Nothing on official website. I dont fully trust channel 7 news until I see the club confirm it

so its been decided that this guy is just going to walk in to the side without proving himself has it?
all of this talk and theres no guarentee he'll even get a game even if he does get signed

No i dont think he will walk into the side but if u go on sheens copmments he wants a bigger and faster side, u work it out.

You never know with Sheens' out of nowhere signings. He could walk into the squad just like TNT/Utai did or suffer the same fate as Mark Meredith or that Russian guy we signed a few years back. One things for sure, Sheens likes to try players who've played some Rugby.

The way I would look at it all will start the season from scratch and whoever proves themselves as the best options in the trials will be the first selected . .
Imagine Grant will need to play at least a dozen games in NSW cup to prove he can handle all aspects of the game first Yes Shute Shield to NRL will he a very big step

Agree…even **IF** we do sign him, he'll have to prove himself he's NRL standard **AND** better than Brown, Ryan!...big ask!

Alexaki is right. Assuming he is signed, he'll be in the mix but let's be realistic, he's a Sydney club player not a Super 15 or Wallaby player. He may turn out to be a great buy but he'll need some time to get used to playing league.

Proving he's NRL standard will be a big ask. Proving he's better than Ryan - not so much.

Generally quicker for Rugby backs to adapt to League - it's the Forwards which have the trouble adapting

Look Utai has done well in the games he has played this year. For mine he lacks pace and going forward I think he will struggle to keep a spot in our top side each week. For mine Marika Koroibete
will be our starting winger with Lote on the other wing by the middle of next year. The young guy is going to be real good and he has lighting pace.

I said before I would be happy for Utai to get another contract he has put in but I sense that the club may be looking at others to be our starting wingers next season.

Its highly unlikely he will be in the 1st grade side in 2012.
Remember Tuiaki was in our squad in 2005 & it took 2 or 3 seasons to get to an elite level.Although Tuiaki was bought over thinking he would play 2nd row.Its way to early to tell if he is up to it as other people have said, the standard of the shute shield is poor to say the least

I wouldn't doubt this guy getting some regular games. He is like lightning, came second in the sprint race last year to turner but finished ahead of hayne Morris barba Gardner an inglis

Another ridiculous thread . Grant will be play for BRET or Wests next year in the hope of securing an NRL contract for 2013\. His signing and Utai's future are completely irrelevant to one another .

That's mostly true but you still can't expect him to go from park rugby to NRL overnight.

Well put this bloke will play fo BRET next year unless he is something special, dont doubt he can run but can he tackle? I am sure Sheens wont rush him.

When will people stop thinking that speed is the key to being a good footballer . Can speak from experience and found as I got slower I learnt far more about the game as I wasn't solely reliant on speed . The other thing you learn about speed is most guys are about the same speed wise(over twenty to thirty metres might only be a metre and a half between most backs) when you get to top level so being a one trick pony won't get you anywhere .

Having speed does help. There is a long list of players in past years which have had speed as core skill to build on have added other attributes with experience and hard work to become great players. They usually start playing short with defective builds and/or tackling techniques …. but in most cases that can be coached into them.
