Miller, Da Silva, Laulilii, Gavin, Colquhoun, Craig and Keppie are all locked in for 23 and will be in the SG squad early next season (most of the winning team will also be back). After the SG Ball season is finished, most of the ones specifically mentioned will be playing in Flegg for the remainder of the season. Miller and Da Silva officially (and maybe some others) will train with the first grade squad over the off season. Miller had a top 30 contract offer from 2024 from the Dolphins but rejected it to stay.

Did we lose any of the ones we wanted to keep from this squad?

On the Flegg side, do you know if Dudley Dotoi is expected back with our team for pre-season and leading into Flegg season in 2023?

any idea who is the spine in the pathways Sheens spoke about when it was first announced? I know Da Silva has the 9 locked down long term but other than that there hasn't been too much more info.

Nice display of loyalty from the young man. It's a refreshing change from the eastern suburbs junior from Camden.
 
To be eligible to participate in the 2023 Harold Matthews Cup, participants must be born in either 2006 or 2007, turning 17 or 16 years of age respectively.

Wests Tigers are building an impressive stable of up-and-coming forwards, with Stefano Utoikamanu, Alex Seyfarth, Fonua Pole, Justin Matamua and Sione Fainu already on the books, but there’s another promising front-rower coming through the junior pathways who fans should look out for future.
His name is Jordan Miller.

The success of the UNE Harold Matthews Cup Western Suburbs Magpies side was one of the highlights of 2022 for club, and Miller has been a constant in the engine room during his two seasons (19 games) in the NSWRL’s Under 17s competition.

The Magpies finished the regular season unbeaten with seven wins and one draw, before taking out the Premiership with a 20-16 Semi-final win over the Canberra Raiders, and a dominant 42-16 victory against Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in the Grand Final.

After a 2021 junior representative season where Miller missed just one game as the Magpies reached the Semi-finals, the young prop played all nine matches in 2022 with his team going one better to secure the trophy.

In that time Miller averaged 13 runs, 142 metres and 66 post-contact, scored five tries and set up two, produced two line-break assists, had 33 tackle busts, threw 10 offloads and made 168 tackles (18 per game).

Miller’s form was rewarded with a pair of respected accolades at the club’s Junior Representative Awards night in September. He was recognised as Players’ Player alongside fellow prop James Folaumotu’i and named Best and Fairest by the Magpies’ coaching staff.

Given Miller has now conquered the ultimate prize at Under 17s level, and also represented NSW City Under 18s in a 42-12 victory in 2022, Rugby League fans might see much more of this front row prospect as he makes his way through the grades.

After a closely-fought opening half, Cronulla ran away with a 20-point victory over Balmain in Round 1 of the Harold Matthews Cup.

The Sharks took a four-point lead into the break before Balmain skipper Alex Conti crashed over and converted to bring the game to within two points.

However, the Tigers struggled to recover after hooker Jared Haywood departed the contest due to a failed HIA, with Cronulla taking hold of the contest.

Balmain fullback, Michael Nassar was a clear standout in a losing side, making several line breaks around the ruck and displaying a tremendous work rate, even with the result out of reach, late in the contest.

A new-look Magpies Harold Matthews side proved to be a class above Manly in Round 1, with this young side showcasing their full potential.

Heamasi Makasini, who starred in the Australian Schoolboys U/15’s National Championships in 2022, scored a double on his Harold Matthews Cup debut, with returning fullback (and now captain), Luke Laulilii and promising five-eighth Onitoni Large, also amongst the try-scorers.

An awful first half from both sides but Wests lead at half time. 3 long range tries off turnovers had Wests wingers in the corners.

Both teams dropping the ball a lot. Forward passes . Just super sloppy, neither team sustaining any pressure for long, when Wests did they took poor options
