Have The fans saved Potter?

Seen a few articles which have made heavy reference to Tigers fans. I think its clear that Mayer, the Board and the media copped a strong backlash from Tigers fans in regards to the potential axing of Potter. To the point where it seems in the next week or so Potter's position for next year may be confirmed by the board.

I know fans can't make decisions. However I think it is clear that here the Tigers fan have had an influence here. The reaction has been strong. The support has been strong after such a dismal season results wise. I know myself as a fan you get emotional and angry after losses, however I think its great how by and large the fans have stuck behind Mick. I think they see someone worth fighting for. They see someone trying to create change which has been needed for a while. They see a man trying to change a culture that has been embedded for too long. At least someone worth giving a real chance. AT most clubs fans are often the first to try and start driving struggling new coaches out the door. Its not like Potter was an ex legend of the Tigers.

I know i have had a few gripes about Potter lately. However I think Tigers fans should be proud of by by and large they have turned the tide of public opinion somewhat. Maybe we helped in a way save the coach? if the reaction had not have been so strong maybe it would have been easy to change. I honestly believe he will stay now.

I would like to think we the fans are considered stakeholders in this equation.

Potter to stay and not because of the Sheens situation.

I still reckon potter is doing an incredibly good job in an almost impossibly difficult situation. Ride out this storm and he and the team will be better for it.

No way in hell I'd sack him.

I don't know if Potters job really was at risk at any stage

The press climbed all over on or two comments from Mayer which really weren't committed one way or the other to Potter

Good luck Mick ,many Tigers supporters are behind you ,repay the faith that the club and the fans have shown

I want to see him given another chance. I think the fans, the media and the fact that they can ill afford to pay 3 coaches in one year might be Micks saving grace.

Have to agree with happy on this - it has been a media frenzy over the tigers in the past month - Marshall going, dysfunctional board, all coaching staff sacked - and now rumours that Farah is moving on - what a beat up - i think the truth is finally filtering through that the media just love bagging WT and Marshall in particular - you would never see the Courier Mail crucify Brisbane the way the Sydney media have done to WT - and the sad thing is the number of forumers who believe and cry over every lie these scumbag journos come up with.

This might have been the actual case. The media especially the DT just make stuff up.

Bingo. Why some people swallow this garbage has me stuffed.

I'm glad that social media plays an increasingly large role in summarising supporter mood.

Wests Tigers are experiencing on a small scale what the ARL was experiencing long-term until the ARLC took over - took many vested interests, politics, jobs-for-mates, stagnant members.

The increase in social media and immediate quotable feedback gives fans increasing power and voice in our game.

Absolutely.

For a new coach with no historic ties to the club and poor on-field results to get strong support from fans when confronted with the hypothetical choice between keeping him or a club legend in Farah speaks volumes.

I don't know if there's any truth to suggestions that Farah was complaining about Potter, but the captain's job is to carry out the coach's instructions on the field. Instead of complaining about the coach, the captain should be kicking the players for not doing their job. The captain is not only the leader but also the enforcer.

If Potter has communication issues, then he should be told to give the captain free reign over the players in terms of their efforts and instruction-following.

I like this, though I'd never thought of things that way.

A team without fans won't attract sponsorships. In a real sense, we're the bottom line. Judging by the anger of the fan response that I've seen, re Potters possible dismissal, the board should take a good look at themselves and start treating fans as the ultimate stakeholders.

We will know when the "review" is completed.
If so he can pay us back in premierships. lol

I like this too and I reckon that is exactly what Mick Potter will do.

You have to figure that when he arrived with a weeks notice, he was the new kid on the block and on his own. He may have had senior players, that didn't like the new direction, undermining him with the board and team mates. He, the board and the players now know that the fans support him and want to see what he can do.

It must be humbling but extremely encouraging for him as the coach of a badly floundering team to know that the ultimate stakeholders, the fans, understand and support the changes he is trying to achieve. I'm dead set sure he wants to win, and he wants to do it with the Tigers.

Now it's our turn to ensure that we maintain our support for him and the team. If I've read it right, the members of this forum by and large support Potter. So said, we have what we want. Let's now give him the time and space to achieve what we want him to achieve.

I think the club initially thought the fans would love to see the back end of Mick and were taken back by the support he had among the punters. I also think they will appoint a "people person" as the assistant coach or even a co coach and leave Mick to do the dirty work.

I get the feeling he will need a miracle to survive 2014

Why would the fans want to see Potter gone ? In front of the camera's he says the right things..doesn't criticise anyone, doesn't blame anyone the fans have no reason to dislike Potter.
Of course they have no idea what he is like behind closed doors but the players do and they are the ones complaining in particular about his communication skills and the way he is much harder on the young players than he is on the senior players.

Potter himself has said he has made some mistakes in his communication to players..lets see how he goes next year …..if it's more of the same then he obviously won't be there.

I agree it will be interesting if he survives who he's assistant coach will be, I have a feeling it might be a board appointment with a view to taking over either mid season or at next seasons end.

And when Potter remains coach, the Telegraph can turn around and say that their BS articles fired up the fans, saving Potter's job. Thank god for the Telegraph!!! :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

I think it is the DT and people like Matty Johns. I think they just love the drama and their inside word is just any punter speaking crap when they are blind drunk out at the pub.
