Havem El Masri charged with domestic violence charges

 Every one of the other 40 'Ambassadors' gets $350 a visit and he wants $1500.
Just sounds greedy to me - or does he think he's 'special'?

"Being a Muslim, too, **_I've been through September 11, the Bali bombings, the Cronulla riots,_** so many things. But I stood strong because I'm here for everyone."

Wellll….not really Hazem

I wonder if they cut the number of events/visits rather than the amount for each?

Reading it it looks like a paycut.
He would have been on massive overs before - if you were one of the other 40 guys you'd sure be asking why he was getting nearly 5 times as much as you.

He's just "special" ck, you hit the nail on the head champ. And anyone who doesnt agree with him has the problem apparently.
Rack off Hazem you whiny flog, you have had your day in the sun for good reasons and bad.

Who are the other ambassadors? If they arent as high profile or doing as much as Hazem to me it makes sense he would be getting paid more.

Gotta agree that last sentence is being a bit melo-dramatic though.

He had me up until that last paragraph.

What does being a muslim have to do with footy..

I do agree that he has been a loyal and great servant of the game and deserved much better then what he got.

It's a shame but it isn't surprising really, the game is run by the most incompetent people. Refer to the faliures of the judiciary system, refeering, bunker, poor rep selections, etc. for proof.

The game is a farce. We can only ever dream of having what the AFL has in the front office..

Consistency and transparency in decision making are areas where the NRL repeatedly fails. It's as though they don't actually have any policies in place and so everything is just dealt with arbitrarily.

All they need to do is devise a policy to deal with players/officials/coaches/ambassadors being charged with criminal offences. The policy itself can be whatever they want it to be. They then need to publish it on their site and issue the policy out to all members so everybody is aware of it (i.e. be transparent in their processes). After that it's just a matter of applying the policy consistently when the situations arise.

If the policy is to take the approach of "innocent until proven guilty" well then fine. There will still be complaints in the media when that policy is applied in cases where people have been charged with DV or rape matters for example, but the NRL can just straight bat it by saying something like "our policy is to let the courts decide the issue of guilt - we do not want to interfere in that process by conducting our own inquiry and in the absence of an inquiry we operate on the presumption of innocence". The media will get sick of complaining when they're fed lines like that as an official response.

If the policy is to suspend players pending the resolution of criminal proceedings well that's also open to them and they can justify it on the commercial basis of protecting their brand. If they do it every time the media will again get sick of it. The dartboard approach at the moment though is just ripe for a media feeding frenzy.

I will attempt to be the devil's advocte (Muslims stone the poor guy at Haj). Many Middle Eastern Muslims are the big disconnect/other in Oz society, either running amok or victims of discrimination. Both "Oz" and Muslims are copping it from the other. Similar to Muslims across Europe they often left out of the equation (and like Aborigines in Oz were). For the lower intelligent and educated in their societies there is not much pathway open to success and acceptance. As worldwide the factory fodder jobs have moved to China and with mechanisation throughout industrial and farm production there are not many opportunities for the lowest in our societies. Those without strong identity of self worth and support of their communities can easily slip between the cracks onto the many sins of society and depression. Those with too much self worth can go in the opposite direction, having a strong sense of entitlement that they have not earned want it all now, hot rods and chicks and will use underhanded means to achieve such. In different ways both roads will receive condemnation of the dominant culture - dole bludgers with big families on social security or crooks running amok filling up our prisons.

Hazem is supposed to be the big connect, and he certainly was when at the top at Bulldogs, the olive knight when many in the team were the Oz badboys. Yes Hazem was melodramatic for mentioning all those upheavals around the world but I know that Muslims in Australia as a consequence of for example 9/11, one guy I know had a panel beating shop at Guildford lost tonnes of business solely out of 9/11 though it entirely had nothing to do with him. The Hansonites and White Patriots woever had it in for them. One reason so many Muslims are in Oz is due to "white" interference in their home countries going back a hundred years and they are genuine refugees.

So Hazem with others has a big job ahead of him and he is a unique person to perform such, being a probably an ordinary educated guy he can relate to and communicate with the same in Muslim Oz but with the authority of being a superstar. To make them look up and be optimistic instead of being depressed or crooked and going downwards. Only maybe he should not be on 5 times the salaries of others, but again the nature of community officer means he has to b available any time any day from daylight to midnight making a different career almost impossible.

I deserve a kebab with garlic sauce for this effort.

Don't be fooled though Tony- the AFL has as crooked and soiled of a history as the NRL that is for certain.
The Essendon drugs saga has been a massive stuff up from start to finish- the club got tipped off by someone in the know (presumably in the AFL heirachy) that they were about to be outed as drug cheats so the very next day Essendon self-reported that they were in fact doing something illegal. The Essendon coach was paid 1 million dollars by the AFL to serve out his suspension from the game studying in France. The AFL CEO suddenly resigned- he was in the saga right up to his eyeballs so took flight immediately and has never been seen in the media since. The St Kilda alledged rape case, the West Coast Eagles drug culture, the Adam Goodes farce etc etc.
The AFL is every bit as incompetent and seedy as the NRL powers-that-be.
