High Definition Footy???

Hey guys, just wanted to put up a thread about why channel 9 isn't showing the footy in HD anymore??

In the time between last season and this season, channel 9 ditched their HD channel and put up channel GEM, which is the channel in which they would broadcast main events such as footy and whatnot in HD.. but I checked the TV guide and on Friday night at 7:30 on channel GEM, and no footy is being broadcasted!

I don't understand why they would ditch broadcasting the footy in HD and take a step back from the future by doing so?? its a rarity to find a house hold without a HD compatible TV anymore so why would they ditch it?? even on a boring Friday night/Sunday arvo game they would still get a minimum of 1million+ viewers so would would they ditch it??

we recently upgraded our foxtel to IQ2 so we can now watch and record in HD, but I'm really disappointed that channel 9 would do such a thing.

post your thoughts here.

Yep it sucks. Hopefully Channel 10 buys NRL rights so they will air it in HD, that’s all I can say. Very disappointed.

As long as Channel 7 don't get it Have anyone seen whats happens in rugby test matches starts off live and finishes about 2-3 minutes behind . Know this as listen on ABC grandstand for round the ground NRL scores and rugby live on Grandstand as well . Absolute joke

yea its shocking because its not like they need to use different cameras or anything, i think all of channel nines cameras would be able to shoot in HD, just requires more cabling and maybe some more man power, but i think its worth it if they are getting 1m+ viewers… doesnt make sense..!

and my only worry with them changing the rights is. what happens with Rabs? does he stay on with nine because of his contrack or does he and the rest of the commentary team just move onto another channel?

Yes, disappointing channel 9 not using HD. Also I heard that channel 10 was going to broadcast a league show on their HD channel on Monday nights but I can't find it, does anyone know if/when it starts?

yea i heard about it myself aswell, my guess would be it starts on this coming monday, but im not sure why it isnt showing up on the tv guide.

They are contracted "talent" of Channel Nine. They would stay with nine.

Standard definition sports broadcasts look like dogs balls on my 50" plasma. I feel sorry for the guys with bigger TVs.

I believe One HD has a rugby league show on tonight at 8.30 with Andrew Moore, Steve Roach and Joel Caine. Sounds pretty good to me

It would have to be after 9pm (i.e. after the Monday night game) but even then I'd prefer to watch the after-show on Fox!

Thanks Mrs T, yes I heard Big Al Jones give it a plug on the radio this morning, getting ready to watch it in 9 minutes.

Iron Tiger, it was an OK show hosted by Andrew Moore with Blocker Roach and Joel Caine on the panel. The show started off with a discussion about whether Brett Stewart was treated fairly by the NRL compared to Benji and Carney.

They have a segment on players of the past and tonights was about the bomber John Peard, Peard was interviewed as part of the segment, showed old footage of teams Peard played in, easts and Parra.
There was another segment in which players from the past comment on modern players over lunch, the players were Roach, Steve Mortimer, Max krilich and Brett Kenny- should of had Tommy on there to spice it up a bit.

David Gallop was interviewed by Dean Ritchie mainly about how the NRL treated Stewart (yawn) Gallop handled himself very well, Ritchie didn't lay a glove on him. There was a bodgy fans poll in which 66% said the NRL should apologise to Stewart (all the manly fans must have jumped on line).

They interviewed Minichello, Hannant and Craig Bellamy. They went through the games this weekend and when it came to Wests Tigers V Dogs they said the Tigers would be hard to beat. Caine showed his fantasy league team and give a few brief tips on how to play. They also introduced a few ways for fans to get involved, one is for fans to record them self and send it in to the show, the fan talks about what they see as an important issue for the game. There is also another competition whereby people can nominate a 'footy mum of the week' the winner gets a prize. Ther was another segment about 'rumours' the key point raised was that one club has big salary cap issues already. They plugged a new Monday night footy show on 1HD called 'one week at a time' its on at 9.30pm. I'll watch it again next week to see how it goes.
