**MAN OF STEEL HODGSON THE STAR AS GIANTS TOPPLE BULLS**
>
Saturday 6 Feb 2010 10:26
>
Reigning Man of Steel Brett Hodgson produced a fine display to help Huddersfield Giants run out comfortable winners against Bradford Bulls in their Engage Super League season opener at the Galpharm Stadium.
>
A double from Leroy Cudjoe, **both laid on by man-of-the-match Hodgson**, and a Shaun Lunt score saw the Giants race into a commanding 16-0 lead.
>
But tries from Stuart Reardon and Rikki Sheriffe before the interval halved the deficit.
>
A converted score from new Giants signing David Fa'alogo and penalty from Hodgson shortly after the interval ultimately proved enough to put the visitors to the sword, although Reardon did grab his second try of the night for Bradford.
>
The Giants took the lead with eight minutes gone after several attacks down the Bulls left.
>
Fast hands saw the ball worked in the opposite direction with Luke Robinson coming up with a couple of nice plays before **full-back Hodgson threw a great ball** to Cudjoe for the simplest of tries.
>
Hodgson increased that lead to 6-0 with the conversion.
>
The second score came in the 7th minute following a try-saving tackle near the Bradford line by Steve Menzies on Kevin Brown.
>
**Hodgson then came up with a beautifully weighted cross-field kick** which allowed Cudjoe to pluck the ball out of the night sky and stroll over for his second.
>
Hodgson shanked his conversion across the face of the sticks this time but it did not matter as just six minutes later they crossed the whitewash again.
>
Brown took the line on and allowed the Giants fast ball, and it was Lunt who plunged his way over from dummy-half following some good attacking rugby.
>
Hodgson, presented with an easier conversion, made no mistake this time to extend his side's lead after 24 minutes.
>
Debutant Matt Orford helped Bradford pull one back three minutes before the interval.
>
The 31-year-old came up with a long pass to Chris Nero, who cleverly flicked the ball to eventual try scorer Reardon on the left wing.
>
Paul Sykes failed to tag on the extras but the visitors made further inroads when Sheriffe crossed for a second score with the last play of the first half.
>
Orford angled a kick out wide and Sykes, who caught the ball with his back to the defence, turned and floated a pass straight into the chest of Sheriffe who squeezed over in the corner.
>
Huddersfield's lead grew to 14 points again in the 45th minute following two good sets of six. The Giants were happy to play the waiting game, moving the Bulls defence from left to right, building pressure.
>
And it paid off when Fa'alogo piled over for a converted score.
>
Thick fog began to set in and Robinson was sent to the sin bin with 10 second-half minutes gone for interfering with the play-the-ball. But Hodgson sent over a penalty as the Giants somehow managed to weather a Bradford onslaught.
>
The Giants looked very comfortable, whereas Bradford began to take more risks as they chased the game.
>
Huddersfield's Lee Gilmour was sin-binned with quarter of an hour remaining and Reardon forced his way over in the corner for his second. But Orford was unable to convert and the try proved little more than a consolation despite the Bulls showing signs of promise late on.

Lets see Lortay do that....

The 75kg SuperMan saves the day again…going to England was the best move for the Champion.
Thanks for keeping the Tales of the legend going , Geo...

Hodgo is a classic example of its the size of the heart in a player.
Alot of bigger built players in NRL could take a leaf from his book.
I for one am very grateful that he played for wests-tigers.

What a game Hodgo had against Bradford, he played them off the park. i swear he playes every position in one game. A true great at the Giants and Wests.

Th injuries to our Ex Wests Tigers players continue….may the Injury Gods , take pity on our current squad, and make all players in all grades stay injury free for the whole 2010 season long

Both for Hodgo....no such luck......

Sean Long made his first appearance at the KC Stadium in the colours of the Black and Whites.

Hodgson out for a month

AAP Wed, 03 Mar 2010 07:28:34

Former Wests Tigers skipper Brett Hodgson has been sidelined for at least a month after suffering ankle ligament damage in Huddersfield's 14-10 home defeat by Warrington on Sunday.

The Huddersfield fullback and captain played on for about 25 minutes before realising the severity of the injury he had suffered to his left ankle.

Hodgson, 32, scored 88 goals and 220 points last year in his debut season in Super League, helping Huddersfield to a third-place finish in the table as well as picking up the league's Man of Steel award.

Hodgson has already secured two man-of-the-match awards in the Giants' wins over Bradford and Hull KR this season but missed their defeat at Hull with a back problem.

"This is hugely disappointing but I'd rather be injured now than towards the end of the season when the key issues could be settled," he said.

Leroy Cudjoe will once more switch from the wing to deputise for his captain at Wakefield on Saturday, with Jamahl Lolesi expected to return to the side on the wing after being rested against Warrington.

We have loads of bacrowers now, so he plays in the centres but he played on the Wing against Hull KR the other week and played very well.

Good on Hodgo, good to see he is still playing well for his age. Definitely punches well above his weight at 75kg.

Just goes to prove its not the size of the dog, but the size of fight…

David Hodgson helps Huddersfield past Castleford in Super League

Huddersfield Giants 24-0 Castleford Tigers
David Hodgson claimed a classy hat-trick to lift Huddersfield Giants into the top three of the Super League table, but the wing's clinical treble could not disguise a desperately unconvincing performance by the Giants on an otherwise forgettable night.
>
Castleford were missing eight players after internal disciplinary problems compounded their lengthy injury list, but the toothless Tigers restricted Huddersfield to two tries until they finally cut loose in the last 14 minutes.
>
**Each of Hodgson's three tries was converted from near the touchline by his unrelated namesake Brett,** the Australian full-back who was last year's Super League Man of Steel, and he maintained that perfect record when Jamahl Lolesi touched down Huddersfield's fourth try in the right corner.
>
But arguably the most significant moment of this match came in the 44th minute with the substitution of Danny Brough, the Giants' recent signing from Wakefield. Brough, whose arrival has coincided with his new club's worst run of the season, was hauled off after a largely ineffective display at scrum-half, and the effect was immediate as the previously stuttering Giants finally claimed their second try. He was reintroduced in the latter stages and provided a few classy passes, but this Huddersfield team remain a work in progress.
>
Both sides were playing their third game in eight days, so some fatigue was understandable after the gruelling Easter weekend. But Huddersfield should have been far better equipped to handle the demands, their coach Nathan Brown having rested five senior players including the captain Brett Hodgson for their game at Salford on Monday.
>
They were also under pressure to bounce back after the weakened team sent out by Brown suffered a surprise defeat at the Willows, but there was not much sign of improvement in a lethargic and error-strewn first-half performance.
>
Cas team including three loan signings and two callow teenagers competed gamely to restrict the Giants to a single first-half try. It came from a rare moment of quality, as Lee Gilmour chased a delicate Brough kick to trap the Tigers wing Shaun Ainscough behind his own line, and from the resulting pressure Kevin Brown's one-handed offload allowed Gilmour and Paul Whatuira to send David Hodgson squeezing in at the corner – the left-wing marking his 50th appearance for Huddersfield with his 33rd try for the club.
>
Brett Hodgson curled over the difficult conversion, but the Giants could not come up with a second try until Brough was withdrawn. Then, the result was rapid, as within two minutes a sweet combination between Brown and Brett Hodgson allowed David Hodgson to claim his second, another sharp finish.
>
That brought a spirited response from Castleford, and they went close to the try their efforts deserved when the young forward Michael Cooper stretched for the line, but the video referee Ian Smith ruled that he had lost the ball in David Faiumu's cover tackle. Instead David Hodgson was soon gliding clear for his hat-trick try to complete a memorable night for him – and him alone.

Onya Hodgo…....

I guess it'll be the "Hodgo Wolves Thread" next year. Can't blame him, one of the best in the league, but Huddersfield only offered one year extension – Warrington offered 2 year deal. No brainer for a bloke like Hodgo who wants to play footy forever.

Its a sad day in sunny Huddersfield, still dont know why we have not offered him 2 years but maybe we are planning for the future. I hate Warrington with a passion so he could not of signed for a worse club in my eyes. They are the melbourne of super league
