I haven't travelled too much, but looking to do a little over the next few years. I would love to hear any travel stories, good and bad from fellow forumers. Both Aussie and overseas welcome.

I haven't been overseas for 20 years. As far Australia goes, I find it hard to spend money going anywhere but Coolangatta because i know I'll love it.

The aim is to go to the 2027 ashes in the UK. Spend a day at Lords then travel around a bit from there. Maybe drive to Bristol, then head north to Liverpool.
In Australia I'm looking at seeing Broome.

What's your budget?

It's a little unknown at the moment (inheritance). But hoping to see a few places in Australia over the next couple of years, then finish with one good overseas holiday. Family holiday with wife and 2 kids. Always wanted to go to New York

If you are in the UK, maybe head up to Scotland for a few days (I also enjoyed York in northern England).

NYC is dead. But I guess its nice to say I've been there. If it were America then definately Utah/Arizona. For starters.

If Coolangatta is the pinnacle of your Aussie adventures, I’d start here rather than overseas.
Anywhere along our coastlines are good. I’d start in WA

UK very expensive..currency worth half of Oz peso, but numbers roughly the same
But if you've never been...its quite an experience seeing all those famous sights
Organised tour best value as it's small distances between destinations
And go shoulder season away from biggest crowds

Thailand

Ao Nang Beach in Krabi Thailand is quite family friendly.... The bargirls and lady Boys are there but it's not in yiur face like Pattaya... Sorta hidden away there
I was surprised to hear of the young Aussie murdered there by a yank recently.. but don't let that put you off
You can do all the island hopping from there like PhiPhi, Hong Island etc

International ive got you covered. Travelled through 122 countries. Locally not too much. Im from NSW and have only been to QLD 2 times, Brisbane/GC and a road trip to Cooktown when I was 21. Nowhere else in Aus lol

Lived 6 months in Egypt. 6 months in Japan. 5 years in China.

I spend my time these days living between US, UK and back home in Newcastle.

Most expensive countries I found are -

1. Australia
2. UK
3. Japan
4. Scandinavian Countries
5. Singapore

Cheapest Countries -

1. Lao
2. Vietnam
3. Syria
4. Egypt
5. Cambodia

Ashes 2027 and then road triping around the UK is a very safe holiday and something you can take as little or as long doing. Youll have zero culture/language shock so itll be easy, very expensive but also a very relaxed holiday.

Anywhere through Europe is a piece of cake to travel and mostly safe. 40 odd countries to pick and travel through. Can blast through 10-20 in a few weeks if you are pushed for time. Lots to see and do. Eastern Europe is a billion times cheaper than Western Europe and a billion times friendlier. Just make sure you tell them everywhere you go that you are Aussie and not British or American. Many attitudes did a 180 when they found out i was Aussie and not British, like hotel rooms all of a sudden that were full when asked for a room and then seeing my passport magically become vacant.

If you want to get more adventurous and cheap you can check out The Middle East, Egypt (Pyramids), STH East Asia, so much to do and see, 1 week $ will be 1 day in the UK. Hiking/Drinking? - Go Sth America. Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia. Cheap as heck, on par with Sth East Asia. China is another place to visit, not as cheap as it was 20 years ago but still cheap and you can travel there for 1 year and still not see everything. Very safe country to travel, stick to the tourist paths and its very easy to get around, most people under 35 speak English.

Honestly, just too much to see, not enough time.

New York is an absolute shithole at the moment, I was there a few months ago (I have a house in Maine and go to NY begrudgingly once or twice a year to see some old friends). I was shocked with what it looks like currently. The crime rate is through the roof, very unsafe. I have heard some horror stories from my friends there. I dont want to get political here but yeah, very shitty place at the moment, hopefully come January 20th next year it gets cleaned up immediately and becomes the once great place it was to visit when you are ready.

They have to deport a lot of illegals from that joint.

Cairns and Perth are well worth a trip for different reasons in Australia.
Unfortunately, the tyranny of distance involves an arduous plane flight if you want to travel overseas.
For that reason ,the south island of New Zealand has some spectacular things to see with a shorter plane trip .
Cruising is another option if that style of holiday appeals to you.

Yea I've heard the same. Really disappointing. Thanks for confirming what I've heard.

Awesome. Thank you for that. Love that you spoke about safety too, as that's huge for my wife and eldest son. Me and my youngest don't mind as much, but if my wife and eldest don't feel safe it will ruin the trip. I'm interested in spending some time in Copenhagen
