Gareth Ellis will be the biggest loss to the Tigers since Brett Hodgson and the team will look a very different one without the big Englishman next year.
When Ellis left northern England to join the Wests Tigers he saw himself as an ordinary migrant heading to Australia to advance his trade. Now, as he prepares to head back home at season’s end after a four-year stint in the NRL, he will leave as a Tigers legend.
‘‘I was unsure if I made the right decision [to join the Tigers],’’ he told me recently. ‘‘But it certainly turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. ‘‘The whole experience has been brilliant.
‘‘It will be a sad time trying to say goodbye to the people I’ve met and being so far away, it’s not like you’re just down the road.’’
He will play his last game at Campbelltown this Monday night and Tigers fans should take the opportunity to thank him for his services.
He will take back with him three Player of the Year trophies — one for every season he has completed so far.

Wests are desperate for the win, Parra want to spoil the party, have nothing to lose and players will want to impress their new coach for next year.
The Tigers don’t have the best record against the Eels and with Parra coming off two unlikely wins, they will be confident of another against their western Sydney rivals.
The Tigers need all the hometown support they can get, so get yourself to the game on Monday to see the boys for the last time in town this year.
