Hypocritical

The hypocrisy was the ratbags who wanted him gone and then called him a traitor when he signed with the Blues.

he wasnt a traitor for signing with them… but he was a lowlife for posing with their jersey while still contracted to us in what was an orchestrated publicity play, the world over thats not a done thing.

I personally hope the crowds turn on him large and loud for this reason alone, it was disrespectful. I couldnt give two hoots who he plays for though, as long as its not us, and we make the process difficult for him due to his severance contract obligations, again simply for the jersey stunt.

Very exciting player in his hay day. He and others like Hodgo, Prince help developed an exciting style of play, which people tune into. My kids are born and breed in Manly but go for the Tigers because of Benji. I've also got friends that say they hate the Tigers however they always turn in and watch the Tigers play.

..but geez he ageing disgracefully.

A lot of people here and elsewhere said they were burned by Benji when donned the Blues jumper, saying that he wasn't loyal.

Now, when Benji wants to come back to the club, we're saying "no thanks"

Is this not hypocritical?

I just wonder how much of this "Sorry, we have moved on" talk is more about getting back at Benji?

just a thought…

regards, one fan who will be unhappy seeing him in another jersey 😢

How on earth are we being hypocritical.

Hey Kul, I think it's easier than that. Nobody needs to get back at Benji. Those that wanted him gone are happy he's gone and, for the most part, make no bones about it.

Those that wanted him to stay (and I'd have to include myself in that group) are sad that he's gone and mostly say so.

However, The Tigers were a losing side, with Benji. And that is not blaming him for the losses. The Tigers are now a wining side without Benji.

Benji had the opportunity to stay (on good bikkies) but left of his own accord. He had the opportunity to join in on the new era, the new culture but instead chose to leave. The remaining leadership group got together and said 'stuff this, we want to work together to win.' He had chosen not to be a part of that.

Imagine how happy we would be if he had manned up at the time (instead of now) and said I'm lazy and mollycoddled but I want to win too. Hey presto here he would be, on $700k/year……but alas history tells a different story.

When he puts on an opposing jumper, then who is the hypocrite?

We are winning!

Benji, thanks for the memories but your services are no longer required, and good luck in your chosen new direction.

Cowboys enquire about Marshall

The ANZAC spirit may be strong at North Queensland but Cowboys coach Paul Green admits it may take something else to lure Kiwi star Benji Marshall to the NRL club. Marshall has been linked with Melbourne and Cronulla after being released from Super Rugby club the Auckland Blues this week. But Green confirmed they had made an official enquiry. "When a good player like that comes on the market, we wouldn't be doing our job if we didn't ask the question," Green said of Marshall.

Asked what Marshall would add to the Cowboys, Green said: "There is a hell of a lot of stuff that would have to happen for it to come off.

"But Benji Marshall is a great player."He has played Tests for New Zealand, won a World Cup, won a premiership, he has some great skills. "Whatever club he goes for he will add something."

For now, Green is happy with the man picked beside Thurston - Thompson. Since Aaron Payne's retirement at the end of 2012, Thompson had been groomed as a rake. But back to back disappointing games by Lui proved too much for rookie coach Green."I'm looking for a bit more out of our halves and hopefully having Ray there will give us that," Green said.

Sitting there in the Blues jumper was a big up yours to everything Wests Tigers, his team mates, the club, us fans and the NRL

Stuff him

Are we forever going to be in his debt for his role in our GF? I was grateful to him (and Sheens) for the premiership but that was nearly a decade ago now

He's cut us off I cant see why some here cannot do likewise

Because I don't want him playing against the Wests Tigers. Play in the ESL or for the Wests Tigers. If he plays for another NRL club it may be a decision Wests Tigers regret.

You can always follow the "other" team

Didn't want to join in on the Marshall debate but he's been taking such a beating that I couldn't hold back lol. I would have taken him back if it didn't compromise our young recruits. People criticise his last year at the tigers (criticising his last 2 years is unfounded because even though the team was doing badly in 2012 his stats were really good). Yes he was trying impossible passes but from what I saw the team was throwing him the ball and hoping for a miracle every time. Our forwards were hopeless giving him no room, no one else was a threat in the centres or on the wing so the opposition would just nail him. I'm not fussed that we're not getting him back but I think he is still an amazing player who could have contributed a lot to the team IF his attitude off the field wasn't poisoning the group.
Yes we're playing a different brand of football, we're playing the brand where our forwards go forward and our centres/wingers are dangerous from any position.
