Writing a book…..... very impressive!

Trying to think of something nice that somebody's done for me for no reason, but, sadly I'm struggling to think of anything! There must be something!! I'll let you know if I remember anything.

Good luck with the book.

Hey Geo

Does it have to be Wests Tigers related??

How do you pre-sell a book that remains to be written (let alone published) geo???

You must have seen those three people coming….

Good luck with it though mate!

I would assume it is about real-life random acts of kindness stryker!

sorta kinda ummm think of it as a journey from childhood to adulthood and the obstacles we face and how the kindness of others or lack thereof effects us…...

working title//...GOD IT'S HARD TO BE ME SOMETIMES....but you have to laugh...

42 pages 36649 words in....just about to hit 15yo...time to grow UP

As long as i get the cash couching u can…....>>>>>>>>>wipe your backside with it for all I care....

NOW REDEMPTION..

Thinking required....ponder this...I have been involved with a few 'charities' in my time being helped when i was young and helping others now ...without naming names what would you think if i told you certain ones make more $$$$$$ out of being a' CHARITY',,,than they actually GIVE to those who need help the most....it gets a chapter.. :unamused: .hmmmmmmm

Now brings me to my point for asking the original question...I believe ordinary people helping ordinary people just by being nice and doing nice things for them expecting nothing in return is where the POWER comes from..not some Religious organisation hell bent in proving how good they are and how much great work they do....that's what i hear most Sunday's..

interested to here your thoughts?

I am actually well aware of the self-serving nature of major charity organisations geo!!

While at University in the early 90s I did a study on charities in Cambodia (that at the time contained the greatest concentration of major "NGO aid organisations" in the world & full-time paid charity workers at a ridiculously high per capita ratio)!

While these charity workers sat in air-conditioned splendour, earned six-figure salaries and drove brand new SUVs - the remnants of the Khmer Rouge were still pillaging villages - kids were still getting blown up by 30-year old US land-mines & living conditions of average Cambodians were beneath those in Ethiopia (which had been the flavour of the decade for charities in the 80s)!!

The main issue however - was the piece-meal nature in which charity funds were distributed! They were done on a stop-gap basis so that people became reliant on the charities - where far lesser cost solutions such as clearing land for agriculture and providing livestock could have allowed these people to become self-sufficient and end the cycle of reliance on charity!!

(That is - as per the old Yiddish phrase - instead of teaching a man to fish - they gave a man a fish - and the next day he needed another one!!)

The reason these solutions were ignored was so that the NGOs could gain a perpetual foot-hold and ensure their own longevity in their jobs - by ensuring the longevity of NEED by the Cambodian people!

It was very much like capitalism where planned obsolescence is built into products to ensure you will have customers in the future!!

I still consider it to be one of the most diabolical things I've ever witnessed! And the culprits included all the big NGOs from the UN to Amnesty International!!

This is a little act of kindness that changed my life.

My family and i first arrived in Oz back in Nov 1971 (i was 5), our first xmas we didn't know anyone. Our next door neighbours (a great aussie couple) come to our door on xmas eve and gave my brother and i a teddy bear each and a couple of bed pillows. It was a Balmain Tigers teddy bear and the pillows had the tigers emblemn on them.

It's now been a 40 year love story with the tigers, and my childern now follow them too.

It's the little things, is there anything bigger.

I had a major house-fire in Balmain in 2000 - I was badly burned & lost my home + 90% of my possessions!

The number of sincere gestures that I received from everyone from my landlord to the nurses at Balmain Hospital, local businesses & even my boss (a RAN Commodore) still blows me away to this day!

It is a highly detailed story & includes some significant names known within Balmain rugby league circles (who I would prefer to not discuss in a public forum - despite it being in a very positive light)!

As such geo - let me know if you'd like the details & I will put them together & PM you!

That is the kid who tonight's Legends game is being named in honour of - Jordan Rice!!!

He & his mother were swept to their deaths in their car in Toowoomba as the youngest brother was saved!

Please confirm whether you'd like a PM regarding my house-fire - and whether my previous post regarding the practises of charity organisations in Cambodia is the sort of stuff you need for your referred chapter!

PS - I am nice brother - but I also have a wicked argumentative streak & don't suffer fools gladly!! Also - I was sincere in wanting a copy once completed!!
