Is Blake Ayshford any chance for Game 3 SOO

His name was brought up by Adam Macdougall on "One game at a time' last night . Ricky did not comment . Centre options getting pretty thin with injuries to many key players . Probably down to Idris or Ayshford in my opinion as Morris or Jennings will return with no games under their belts . Also Qld will have Hodges back . Be interesting to see who they go with ??Any other players do you think they may consider seeing Ricky likes to pick players in their own positions (Otherwise I would of put Luke Lewis in )

He should be in the mix but he won't be.

It's funny, must have been less than a month ago everyone was saying he's average and too slow.

I think the reason why Stuart didn't respiond when Ayshford's name was brought up was because he didn't want to embarrass thje poor kid on national television. SOO 3, no way. He's been good for the past 2-3 weeks and that's about it. No doubt he's a star player for the future but really, he had a blinder a few weeks ago against Newcastle, followed it up with a good performance against the Warriors and was just above average against the Storm.

There is no way Ayshford is an Origin player. He has had two fantastic games all season. Bit of perspective - last time he came up against Justin Hodges it was a bloodbath.

I am biased as they come but gee some people overrate some of our players. Happy with Ayshford's progress, but he will never be a rep player IMO. Solid first grader, that's it. Hope I am proven wrong.

Thank god someone talks some sense. Ayshford has been playing well the last month, but really is just a very solid footballer, who lacks a bit of pace. In the finals last year, while some people will say he was 'amazing', he was very good, defended well and took an intercept vs the roosters, thats it, and i mean that nicely, but people on here said it was one of the best performances by a centre theyve ever seen…..

Unfortunately for rep standard, he is just a touch slow. He can move quite quickly when he gets into space, however he has to make the break first. One of Ayshfords big downfalls is he cant really run onto the ball at pace like good quality centres can. He also doesnt have the ability to set up his winger.

Lastly and most importantly in this situation, let me say that AYSHFORD is a right centre who holds the ball in his right hand, and palms with his left. He cant do that on the other side - its just naturally how someones body works, you have a preferred side with movements.

The next best left centre would be Josh Morris I guess while Hayne would also be a freak wherever he played, among other centre.

The only ever Tigers player to be robbed of origin spots has been Robbie Farah 2006-2010.

Think you'll find even Sheens has hinted he'll end up at lock.
He's plenty big and fast enough for there - maybe thats why there is speculation Heighington has had talks with the Dragons.
IMO he holds his own against pretty much anyone when playing right centre .
The bad game he had against Hodges I think he may have been at left centre?

Yes, he and Brown were switched.

I'd normally agree with you but they picked Will Hoppoate for game 2… On that basis Ayshford getting picked wouldn't be that crazy. If he played for Manly he'd be getting measured for a blazer as we speak.

As a right centre he is up against football royalty in Mark Gasnier. So unless Blake starts sending texts to ladies telling them to " fire up," or complain about the NRL and nick off to France to play rugby, he is no chance.

Will Hopoate is a very special player, different class to Ayshford.

May I suggest you have a look at the statistics for the Storm game. Blake was the leading attacking player with 132 metres. I went through the tape again last night and please be assurred that Ayshford was the only player to be consistently RUNNING STRAIGHT. That is why he gained so much ground with his runs.
In addition, he was among our top performers in the run home and the semi-finals last year.

Because he plays on the right I think he is unlikely. But there is a lot of rubbish in this thread about Blake only having played a couple of good games. I have had a very critical view of Blake since he debuted against the Warriors a couple of seasons ago, principally because of his apparent inability to get his winger away. He also had some defensive issues in the early part of last year. However he has come on in leaps and bounds in the past 12 months. He is now a very strong runner of the ball with an unusual but effective step. He has shown that he is not the slow coach he was painted as and his defence is rock solid. He may never be a SOO player but some of the tutting tutting about him not being in that class seems way off the mark to me and I agree with Mighty Maggie.

The other great thing about Ayshford?

I can't remember the last time he has knocked the ball on.

Ever.

You pass that kid the ball it sticks. He carries it in one hand a'la Meteo and Sonny-Bill, and he doesn't drop it. Throw him a dodgy pass (final minutes vs Newcastle) and he makes the one handed catch and run into a gap look graceful and like it was meant to happen.

His ball handling seems sublime.
