James O'Connor

James O'Connor was released from Reds
Would anyone want him? He probably won't play rugby again and if he was cheap he's a big quick centre who can kick goals, just a thought

He is a naughty boy, who isnt very popular with his team mates.

Reds arent really saying why, but they are happy to see him gone

Not even worth it's own thread. The guys trouble and France or Japan is his best option.

Can only name a few players from rugby union who converted into great rugby league players, Ben Kennedy, Ray Price, Scott Gouley, Wally Lewis and Ricky Stuart.

Duds like Sam Harris, Garwick Morgan and Brett Papworth (had one of the worse tackling techniques I have ever seen. Do not lead with your jaw onto someone knees).

We have no evidence that he wants to come back to his game, a couple of years ago I was in a Hospital waiting room waiting for the 'other' to come out of a rehab session and found a Readers Digest article that suggested that RL was his first love but was rejected by the Broncos for being too small.
Now he was scouted by the great Broncos recruiter in Cyril Connell and the Broncos may have overlooked
him once Bennett had left their systame circa 2009, I hope that A/ he get's his head in the right space and B/ if he wants a break he can sign up with a side in the Super League

I reckon he has a tonne of talent. He doesn't seem to have his head on right though and he can probably earn significantly more money overseas in rugby.

He wouldn't handle league anyway so no thanks.

He would be a sensation at league (ability wise)

O'Connor is as talented as you can be.

He is alot bigger than you'd think, he is very fast and very skillful.

He is a very physical player and actually dominates at contact.

He is a classic example of being told from a very young age that you are a star, and let it go to his head.
I blame the system, he was a very nice young kid when he first entered the scene, and they bought him on way too early, and really patted him on the back way too much.

He wasnt emotionally mature enough to match his footy ability.

He played for QLD in 15's schoolboys league and was a superstar, 2 years later he was a wallaby, he could handle NRL on his ear.

Unfortunately off field he has turned into a twat. But it is not all his fault.

You obviously know a fair bit about his career thus far Goose. But IMO O'Connor is a grown man so if he is a twat off the field then it is absolutely 100% all his fault, can't blame anyone else once you reach that age.

Greg Martin launches attack on James O’Connor
October 14, 201511:49am

On Tuesday former Wallaby Greg Martin began in an extraordinary spray on Triple M’s Marto and Ed Kavalee for Breakfast. “He’s an immature little twat.” Martin spoke about how O’Connor used to mess about with his other “amigos”, Kurtley Beale and Quade Cooper, but the latter two grew out of it and are now contributing members of the Wallaby set up. Anyone can mature, that showed me — apart from the Justin Bieber of Australian rugby, James O’Connor,” Martin said.

“He’s still only 25\. This could be the greatest waste of Australian rugby talent. He’s played 44 Tests for Australia at the age of 25, hasn’t played in the last few years because of his bad attitude, a guy that just hasn’t matured and now they’re going ‘personal issues’.

“I’ll tell you what the personal issues are: he came back to Australia from France just saying, ‘Oh, I’ll make the Wallabies.’ “He didn’t make the Wallabies and, now he’s gone to the Reds despite owing them another year on his contract, he’s gone, ‘Stuff you I’ll go back to the fairytale land of French rugby and make plenty of money.’

Remember that game this year when he came of the field arguing with the great All Black Adam Thomson, his teammate, at halftime? “That picture should have said it all: a little young punk with one of the greats of the modern game Adam Thomson having an argument on the field in front of the world as they went into the tunnel. That says it all. Who does he think he is?"

Fairfax, Cleary, O'Connor. Catchpole would have killed it. Williams has played both at the highest level, as did Thorne.

There were a couple of 5/8's, one who played for Souths and the other for St. George who could play as well. At my age my memory sometime fails to kick in with names.

John Brass at easts and Phil Hawthorne at the dragons and their were plenty of other very good union players who went on to be very good league players. Every time the word rugby comes up on this forum or any other their are people who want to put the boot in to rugby players. Most rugby backs can kick off both feet and the halves can throw a great pass left to right or right to left, this is not the case with a lot of league backs although I must admit it is changing. Anyway my point their are very good players in both codes and their are some who are not so good
