JAMES TEDESCO SIGNS NEW THREE-YEAR DEAL

Well they certainly have high expectations of James. If he is as good as we all hope, then its a clever move to sign him up before the whole league world notices him.

On a side note for those who haven't read it, Humphries has highlighted him as one of the players to get excited about - see the 'Tigers boss backs combined comp thread'.

Here, here to those who get excited about a junior getting his debut. I too feel when there is a highly regarded junior possibly getting a start its just like icing on the cake for the start of a new season.

Trials first though. No doubt the 7 and 1 was going to be the most interesting aspect of the trials. Now even moreso just to see how Tedesco handles it.

For Nostalgic reasons I have re added this article about Our JT.

Also, I was surprised to see how big he appears in the photo that accompanies the story on the Official website

**JAMES TEDESCO ANSWERS FULL-BACK PROBLEM**

A month ago, Wests Tigers U20s Coach Grant Jones was agonising over his search for a permanent full-back.
>
In an article on weststigers.com.au on May 19, Jones was set to use his fifth full-back in 10 games on the eve of Wests Tigers clash with Penrith at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.
>
Blessed with the backing up ability of prolific tryscoring full-back Jake Mullaney over the past two years in the NYC competition, Jones was looking for a full-back who could inject himself into the play at the right time.
>
He had previously tried Ratu Tagive, Limoni Kamuta, Matt Evans and Jay Bonnell at full-back and was giving Justin Smith a chance for the Panthers game.
>
“In previous years, we would make a break and Jake was there. We are making breaks but no one is there. It is just not happening. The full-back position is up for grabs,’’ Jones said at the time.
>
The popular coach also spoke briefly about a player who had caught his eye. His name… James Tedesco from the Western Suburbs SG Ball side.
>
“James is a talent. He has good speed, is good with the high ball, and can read the game well,’’ Jones added.
>
“He knows where to be and is a good support player. His time will come.”
>
Fast forward a month to a sunny Sunday afternoon at Leichhardt Oval and a clash with Melbourne Storm. Wearing the number one jersey was Tedesco, playing just his third U20s game.
>
Wests Tigers turned in their finest attacking performance and their best win of the season in a 60-20 victory.
>
Jones was right. Tedesco was very good under the high ball, has scintillating speed and certainly can read the game well. Four tries proved that. His time had come.
>
Tedesco’s four tries equalled the Wests Tigers U20s club record for most tries in a match – set by none other than Mullaney against Cronulla in 2009.
>
Today, Jones is grinning like a cheshire cat for the search is officially over. Tedesco has been found.

Ive no idea if this is good or not.
Ive never seen him play….well I probably have but wouldnt know a junior player if I fell over him
I'll wait until Ive seen him

Really, I thought you followed the juniors

I usually see the 2nd half when I go to games, but I dont make a note of finding out whos who unless they absolutely stand out….last player to really catch my eye in 20s was Lui.

I believe there was more than one NRL club already showing a lot of interest in Tedesco

All going a bit overboard imo….just saw that article from 8 months ago

He really is the golden boy atm....hope they know what theyre doing, lumping all this pressure on him

Dogs, dragons and Manly. Dragons made a massive play and it is a real coup that he has elected to resign with us long term.

Well done Wests Tigers

Wow big signing for an unproven player.

I sincerely hope he works out for us and more importantly the pressure doesnt destroy him. I havent seen him play as I take little interest in the NYC (not my cup of tea), however going off reports from some of you he is a rare talent.

Good luck to him, he is being given an opportunity that few get at his age. I hope for his and our sake he takes it with both hands. I am really looking forward to the trials…

With the other clubs circling and, the way recruitment is going, it's all fair game way ahead of time.
If the player is wanted, he either stays or is snapped up elsewhere.
So, decisions are made. If it works, great.
If the player chooses elsewhere, the dollar is usually the difference.
So, at least from our development of juniors, this is a good outcome.
I think it's great to stick by the best juniors and keep them if you can.

Absolutely. Hopefully David Nofoaluma also has a big season because he is another Magpies junior worth holding onto provided he knuckles down and works as hard as Tedesco has IMO.

Another St. Greg's boy in the team. Fantastic news for both James and the Wests Tigers.
Looking at his profile on the WT website looks like Tedesco could well be our first true J/V local junior,
born in Ryde (Balmain) and played for Camden (Wests)

I hope he does as well his a brilliant player Nofaluma, unfortunately David's work ethic lets him down at times. Hopefully he is inspired by what his little mate has been able to achieve and puts in the hard work.

Looks to have as much talent as you like, but unfortunately whispers about not doing the hard yards are cominf from a few sources, but lets face it he is still a kid, it call change quickly and I hope it does, until this point he has excelled without have to work hard at it, once he realises this wont always be the case he may put in.

Ink, I know you think we are going over the top with this kid, and maybe we are, I haven't been this impressed by a WT junior ever (includes Lawrence), as we all know this being great at junior level does not always transfer and the difference between potential and performance can be a world apart, but he is a special talent.

Its true everyone is excited by this young kid, and he will be successful at the top level , they rekon it takes at least a season of FG to really get comfortable , and the only way you get that experience is by playing , so the sooner he gets in there the sooner he will get some experience and become a regular first grader . If he finds his feet in FG in his first season then we are all gonna be lucky to have him in our side.
He can't go back to NYC cause he's to good for that comp and sheens must feel the same way to sign him up for 3 years
So I guess don't expect fireworks out of him just yet , just a good solid game week in and week out and once he gets comfortable with the speed of FG he can then start to shine , and the difference with him and other players coming thorough is he's got the talent to shine. He's got pace , footwork and he's a ball player as well as soon as he learns to use these weapons in FG sign him up for another 5 years cause the vultures will be out big time

Robbie Farah was a star staight away, same for Bunji….....same for Lawrence too.

If he is good enough why cant he shine asap?

There's nothing to say he can't , just it's a big step up from NYC , and u can't give 19 year olds 1 game and say your not good enough

Ask tony Carroll about how good lawernce was in defence in his first season of FG ?
Look at lawerance now he has experience and has developed into one of the best centers in the game, he always had speed and talent but his game needed to ne adjusted for FG

I know a few guys that have played FG not only at club level but also international level and they all say the same things

1) the hits and physicality are similar as lower grades it's just the pace of the game that's the hardest to adjust to, FG everything happens quickly

2) you need a season of games in FG to get comfortable with it

So I rekon if they played for Australia and nsw , they know what there talking about

I have no doubt Tedesco will handle it , I just think you shouldn't be expecting him to show the same form from NYC and Juniour levels on his first year in FG squad, if he can deliver staright away then we do have our own billy slater.
