John Grant never to play NRL?

It was his first year, he spent some of it injured and the rest learning how to defend and play.

Why so much pressure and expectation?

Can we assume that John Grant is not good enough to play NRL & that he will not be offered a contract for next season?

I wouldn't assume that since it was only his first year playing Rugby League professionally. Multiple injuries this season haven't helped his cause. Having said that, he's got a few players in front of him but it all depends on how much learning and improvement he has in him. Physically he has all the traits to be a top first grade winger, but whether he has the ability to succeed in the NRL…Have to wait and see if he sticks around next year and if there are signs of improvement.

Even if he was the next best thing, do you really think Sheens would pick him in front of Ryan,Utai,Koro and possibly Lote if Sheens extends his contract. I saw him play a few times, looked better with each game but not sure if he could handle the defensive work and defensive hit ups that are required of winger these days

He never would've been viewed as a likely candidate for first grade this year anyways. More of a project player really. I'd be quite shocked if we let him go really, if we did, well then he must be a pretty shocking player or his heart is not in it. I'd expect to see him around next year.

I wouldn't re-sign Tuqiri. Injury prone, too old & has lost too much speed. Oh yeah also suspect ball control.
In hindsight was not worth the approx $1,000,000 plus for 3 years. :bawling

We've got a few wingers up our sleeves so you think they would take a punt on him at the low money he is on in place of keeping Tuquiri.
Give him a chance to prove himself injury free - if he's not up to scratch it's no biggie.

Gee a bit harsh on Grant, has a bit to learn sure an off season could be what he needs but what he has is size speed and can learn and improve. Ryan, Utai Loti are as good as they will be. In respect of Utai to me would make a great lock, Loti is sadly past it, and Ryan seems to have lost his speed and forgot how to pass the ball and we all know we have lost speed within the team. I sure hope he stays and makes it, we need change and no more of the rubbish thats been served up for the last few seasons.

I know that–but I think Sheens has other views. Koro proved what a great asset speed is and Grant is a yard quicker. I just cant see Ryan and Utai winning us a comp, they are handy but their is no x factor

It will probably depend on what the Tigers goals for him were at the start of the season

If he has reached those goals he might get a new contract

If he hasn't he probably won't get resigned

I don't see the point of only signing him for 12 months? I'd imagine the club would keep him on as you wouldn't think he'd be costing us an arm and a leg. I'm still excited by the potential of Grant. As supercoach said a bit of speed makes a world of difference and our backline was painfully slow this year.

At the start of the year I honestly thought he'd see some first grade this year. As we've seen this didn't happen and i'm happy to admit I was wrong, so cut me a big slice of humble pie please AHX!

I don't think he will ever play NRL. Sheens is very loyal and doesn't like to make changes. He is now behind Utai, Ryan and Koroibete as it is, plus probably Nofolomu. Not to mention Tuquiri as well if he re-signs.

In saying that I think he is good enough. Yeah he's not going to be a perfect all round winger, but neither are any of the other guys I just mentioned, they all have faults. Id personally be persisting with youth/pace on the wings and be biting the bullet with 2 out of Koroibete, Nofolomu and Grant. You don't need to carry more than 3 wingers in your first grade squad.

But as I said, I can't see him forcing out the guys I said. I picture him to leave at the end of next year, be signed by another url club and be a huge asset to their side.

Grant has a two year contract. Utai and Tuqiri are yet to be resigned and at this stage I imagine that means that they won't be. This means that going into 2013 Ryan and Koroibete will be starting wingers. He isn't as far from the grade as you think. The fact that he is on the bench in reggies means nothing right now because he has a first grade contract and the other two don't (Hytchcox and Agia) and he has a whole off season to train with the top grade and the other two don't. If Ryan or Koro go down I reckon it would be between him and Nofoaluma and as of right now, Nofoaluma is the better option but after a whole off season, that may change.

tl;dr it is far too early to tell. He scored four tries in a match in the second tier of Australian rugby league so he has to have something going for him. I dare say if he ever did make it he would go alright.

I thought Bell and Utai already received a 1 year extension each? I think it was RLW that mentioned it, although they aren't always the greatest source of info.

zero tackle has Bell and Utai both unsigned and they are usually pretty good.
