King of kids. Love the way he runs out of the tunnel, hands outstretched touching every child's hand and makes sure he never misses any. The way he always picks up the tee after kicking for goal and hands it to them and always thanks them. Thurston has always been a bit of a larrican and i've always liked him. In saying that, there was a time my like for him waned a bit, especially when my young children would be watching a cowboys game and Thurston would blow up at the refs and shout the F word loud enough for little ears to hear. The club had a chat to him about it and other off field issues and to his credit he listened and started to change his ways. That's credit to him. And doesn't fatherhood agree with him. He's so smitten with his baby girl. He's also playing out of his skin. He deserves the Dally M Imo. A wonderful man, a great competitive and smart player that never, ever gives up. I would love to see the Cowboys in the grant final. I don't like their chances against the Roosters at Alliance Stadium but i wish them the best of luck . It won't be a lack of trying on Thurstons part thats for sure. Good luck to the Cowboys and fingers crossed for a win.

Yes, hes been doing all of the above mentioned for a few years now i.e. giving the kicking tee back to the kids and now all the goal kickers are following suit.

He's been quite proactive philanthropically off the field for a number of years.

This was a nice gesture earlier this year by him as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FQXTtwQHI8

Yes all that stuff is nice and very well thought out by JT. Very calculated decision to these publicly visible gestures

I agree with you KS - looks all too orchestrated for my liking.

I agree with you CK "All too orchestrated". How convenient that he also works with the:

- Learn and Earn Foundation with Indigenous children promoting the importance of education
- promoting English and Maths with the 'Artie Foundation'

- ABI as an Indigenous ambassador

- Break Thru’s “All Kids Can Play” promoting equality in sports

All too convenient if you ask me… hmmmm...especially while I sit here on my arm chair... :brick:

Agree….think Thurston is a great ambassador for sport in general...seems like a really decent bloke....wish him all the best.

Either he's turned a new leaf or he's got everyone fooled - but I don't have a short memory and it seems KS and Geo don't either.
Each to their own opinion.

Many of you Mexicans wouldn't know this but his Uncle was killed in a street fight at Inala in Brisbane

He turned his life around after that . He seemed a petulant brat at times beforehand , watch the 2005 GF Mander was ready to sin bin him for something he said to one of the touchies

When I went to one of the shopping malls in Townsville I was amazed to see a roster in a window of a training group that had exactly when every member of the Cowboys squad was going to a particular school to help with the kids learning and explaining what it took to get to the top

I know most clubs do this , but to have it advertised was a little different

At the Laurie Spina Cup players walked around and watched the games and high fived the kids after the game

The Cowboys really seem to have their fingers on the pulse of Townsville

I saw a piece on JT's wife a couple of years ago. She's not your regular wag. And a few years older than JT.

I think she's the Cowboy's Community Marketing person- very clever, strong lady and I'd be guessing she's played a big hand in him maturing from brat to the NRL's poster boy.

Orchestrated or not, you go talk to those kids he interacts with and ask them what they think of him. For a fleeting second they have the attention of a legend of the game, something they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. Not to mention he does other things off the pitch with kids and ambassadorial roles which someone has already drawn attention to. He was a wanker in his younger years but then again I'll bet some of us were as well.

As Ink said, maturity.

What does our captain do during / after games?
