Can't believe we live in a world where spitting is considered assault…..

In some cases spitting on someone is worse than giving them a clip around the head. If I was a police officer I wouldn't want some low-life spitting on me who potentially has an infectious disease (which may even be a life-threatening one).

Thought Taufua did a great job on the field in the few games he played, but hearing this the bloke is an animal who deserves no respect.

It is time the NRL showed some figs and come down hard on these vermin that continue to hurt the game's image. Surely these players realize the fantastic position they are in, plenty of fame and wealth, yet they continue to show no brains and carry on like dickheads. Unbelievable

Spitting is NEVER worse than hitting someone, ever.

If he gets suspended or banned I will be very surprised, fine him and that's it. Police need to focus on real issues not charging someone for assault because they disrespected them. Nothing worse than an arrogant cop who thinks he runs the country. (side note: most cops are fantastic people)

I hate when people talk crap and disrespect police, they may give out fines etc but at the end of the day who is saving our life? if they were not working who would have put all those criminals away? would you like to drive on a road with everyone speeding and crossing red lights so you don't feel safe? I don't think so. He deserves what he gets.

Seriously? You would prefer some scumbag spitting a big loogy at you that happens to go in your mouth, then having to wait for weeks or months to get test results back to see if you have contracted Hepatitis or HIV off them, than copping a whack in the chops??? FMD :wtf I know what I would rather

hahahahaha bit of an overreaction there I think fade to black. I've been jumped from behind and had headaches for weeks afterwards, so yes, I know what I would prefer

He should ring Gibbsy and seek advice on how to get away with no consequences.

There should be a do not respond list for scumbags who show zero respect for the Police. "Oh! Your house has been broken into? Stiff sunshine, work it out yourself"

Overreaction? Haven't you ever heard of someone contracting diseases from being spat at? Do you own a TV or read a newspaper?

Never heard anything of the sort. I work in a hospital with sickness and diseases everywhere and I have never contracted a serious infectious disease or heard of anyone contracting anything

Pretty lucky then I'd say. Have you ever had people spittin on you?

It's denigrating a figure who upholds the law, not to mention disgusting.

The cops already have a tough enough time on the job without clowns like him spitting on them.

Well that disease is called aids Blake, the reason why there is a blood bin in NRL, you can catch it either by blood or saliva and something else.

You can't contract HIV/AIDS by saliva.

^Exactly. I think both of you are overreacting majorly to this, a punch can cause brain damage, the likelihood of catching an infectious disease from someone spitting on you is incredibly small. You need to understand just how good the body is at destroying viruses.

A punch in the face or being spat on? Being spat on would have to be the most disrespectful, disgusting, vulgar, degrading act 1 person could ever do to another. I know which one id rather. Think of it like this, you have 2 players facing the judiciary on the same night. One is facing a stint on the sideline for clocking another player in the face, and the other is facing time for spitting on another player. Who do you think would get longer?

Its also worth noting this incident occurred at the Glitter strip nightclub. Sounds like a classy establishment

You want to act like an animal and spit on people then as a society we should be free to cage you with some real animals (in the prison system) and see how well you fare

I can handle someone trying to throw a punch at me but I definitely could not not handle somebody spitting at me. It is defonitely the lowest act. This policeman may have a family consisting of a wife and a number of kids. There is every chance that a guy who would spit on you has been on drugs and injects himself with needles which may be infected with hepatitus or worse still, HIV. In case you didn't know HIV is a terminal painful illness. I know this very well, as I lost a brother-in-law to HIV.
