IN A major blow for the Raiders, Canberra flyer Josh Dugan yesterday rejected a three-year contract extension in favour of testing his value on the open market next season.
Painfully aware Dugan is poised to become one of the game's most sought-after players, and with his contract up at the end of next year, the Raiders were desperate to secure the 20-year-old fullback until 2014 before their rivals could legally bid.

But Green Machine boss Don Furner was yesterday told the Tuggeranong junior was "in no hurry" to commit.

"He is going to back himself," said Dugan's manager, Daryl Mather, last night. "They were very keen to keep him for another few years but he is in no hurry to do anything.

"He will just keep on playing football and look at his contract situation next year."

As revealed in Footy Confidential last week, the Bulldogs are keen to lure Dugan to Homebush as a replacement for ageing No. 1 Luke Patten. The Raiders traditionally struggle to keep their local talent and it would be perhaps the greatest shame of all if Dugan left.

Still in the ACT, we are told man mountain Scott Logan is considering playing on for another year.

The veteran warhorse was leaning towards retirement, but now wants a new deal after an impressive start.

he is good but is he better than players the Tigers have waiting in the wings? He is bigger than Mullany at the moment but give him a another year or so and i think he will bulk up and be amazing. I don't think Dugan can kick..

I would love to have him at the Tigers. Would take him before most first grade fullbacks in the comp, he has a huge future ahead of him and I think is just about a certainty to play origin in the future.

Yeh i agree. I player is only ever a great signing if the price is right. But i disagree that Mullaney could be better. I dont think he will be anywhere near Dugan.

He would be an excellent signing. I'd take him over Mullaney given the closeness is age of both of them. Dugan is a much better defender too.

Have watchged him with keen interest since his days in Toyota cup where he was outstanding.
Make no bones about it I want another rep quality prop in our squad but would have no problem letting some go to sign Josh.

that article is rubbish. Dugan isn't off contract till the end of next year, why would he re-sign now? He's on the way up, he'll be worth a lot more in 12 months time.
