I have thought long and hard about the players we are off loading and i have a theory.I feel that the players have been off loaded because they are the class clowns, the jokers in the pack so to speak.

They conduct themselfs in a unprofessional manner off the field and this in turn affect the professional behavior of the rest of the player group at training for example.

If this is the case Tim Sheens is not only getting rid of the unprofessional players he is indirectly getting rid of any close bonds and /or friendships that could be a hindrance within a profession organization. I like the new direction,no b/s professional football club.

All in all this could be great for the club.

I have heard worse theories. Although not sure there is any specific targeting. We are keeping a hold of our 6-7 "elite" players and then working out the ones under that, that are not going to improve the side. Like someone said previously there is no nice way of doing a clean out.

I Would class a couple of the comments from Gibbs and Ryan as unprofessional. Moltzen picks and chooses his times to make efforts and has shown petulance on the field a few times. Fifita is showing all the signs of being a WIllie Manu, talented but too much ego. Mckinnon and Fultpon are just busted plain and simple. Heightington is the only one I probably feel for.

Honestly none of the these players are going to go on to great things. Just like Collis, Halatau etc we are not losing world beaters by any stretch. The problem is some of these players are very tight with out "elite" players. SO the team is in a very bad head space.

They should harden up and get on with it. However we contain a number of primma donnas in a sense and things are going to be messy until seasons end. It looks like with their current attitude things are a write off. However 2012 could still be good with the right planning, the Under 20s have some HUGE talents, and we might snare a couple of "elite" players which could imrpvoe the side on the field.

Turbulent times, but there could be light at the end of the tunnel at the end of this clear out.

Doesnt explain why most were originally re-signed earlier.
If theyre all clowns, then re-signing them….some several times since their misdemeanour - would be negligence would it not?

Look at Humpty yesterday, strong words such as arrogance & disprespect directed to another club, theyve returned serve....nothing back from Humpty.
Look at Sheens, our coach & the national coach, replying to a journo with a swearword in a press conference....in the past criticising his own clubs fans thru the media on a couple of occasions.

Hardly setting a good example.

Coach and CEO are under the pump, no doubt. Judging by their heated reactions yesterday, they know it too. It was a very bad day/night for the club overall. Taken to school on and off the field. Quite embarrassing.

Finally some people talkin some sense. Well done Eddie and Frazer. Players we are letting go are not world beaters. Fifita will be the next Joel Clinton. Australian prop when panthers won the comp. Took the cash at the broncos and where is he now? Fifita will be the same. Only players I would like to see stay which have supposingly been given permission to look elsewhere are Moltzen and Heighno. Moltzen is young and recovering from a serious knee injury. It takes time to recover. Look at Willie Mason when he had his knee reconstruction. He NEVER hit the ball up with the same speed or aggression after his surgery.
Lui is the one I would be getting rid of.

On a futher note, i was thinking that the likes of Bellamy or Bennett would not put up with all the shenanigans that goes on around this club.

Maybe Tim Sheens has woken up to this fact and is finally getting some professionalism around the place. a DIFFERENT APPROACH SO TO SPEAK.

Great post Eddie. It pretty much sums up the whole thing at the moment. Sadly, you suggest we're in for an unhappy end to 2011\. Probably you're right, because they're not getting better on the field, in fact they're becoming an embarrassment. If it was a technical thing more than a mind-set thing, it would have been fixed by now.

But, I don't think it's deliberate, I'm sure the team would want to perform better if they had the mental capacity to do so. What's gone, for some who are leaving and their mates who are staying, is the incentive to put in the extra effort when it's needed. To me, it was reinforced by the performance of Chris Lawrence on Fri night. His injury came at a time when the team was going well, had a great look about it and there was no whiff of disharmony or unhappiness. So, he came back and played like he always had BUT he stood out because in the battle of the game, his team mates AREN'T playing like that anymore.

I'm sure training is fine, the warm-ups are fine, the strategy is fine BUT they run out to play, not as a team, but as a group of individuals who are either lacking confidence in themselves, or worse, in the motivation and commitment of their team mates. The man management of Sheens and the staff is the most important thing now, and so far, it seems to be beyond them to turn the mental approach of individuals around.

The only thing I'm scared of is that if (they probably have) management faux have occurred,
hopefully they don't make an even bigger blunder trying to save their arses and not thinking of the club.

Can't do anything but sit back and hope for the best.

Mate , you mean well but it is no good pointing the finger at the players.
Some of our guys might be jokers but they're not in the same mould as someone like Willie Mason (and others) who are forever getting in trouble.
If Sheens didn't have them in his plans he should have done something before resigning them and THEN telling them to look elsewhere.
The problem is really that it is so many at once.
Sheens has run out of tricks - so we better hope the players decide to get it together themselves.

Some great points here. I too have a good feeling that this is a good thing. I understand all the negativity that surrounds everything at the moment BUT I think that if none of this had happened, the same posters would be posting that Sheens just got a new 3 year deal "and nothing has changed, nothing new, no direction etc etc etc". Seems to me that along with the new deal for Sheens comes a new direction and TBH I applaud them for doing it. Ink has raised the very good question of why re-signing a few of them first but my gut feel for that is that its a combination of new signings/salary caps issues/players of value to other clubs/upgrading NYC stars.

I think IF we can get past the end of this season intact (coach still there, push on with the plan) and get into the offseason/preseason with the plan intact and new players in position then its a new beginning.

Every team needs a class clown to switch the pressure valve off in the tight explosive moments . Granted we seem to have too many class clowns . So far every person let go I can deal with . Its just the way the club has handled very badly and very unprofessionally (bit like how the team is playing at the moment ). If the club could at least name a big name signing it may spark the clubs confidence and the players may start to perform .
