Knock on or strip?

when in a tackle, referee can't see what's going on but usually it ticks me off when u see the replay and the referee has got the wrong decision. players are starting to milk these penalties very nicely as well.

is there any solution to this? because stripping results in a penalty which could eventually decide a game. i dont blame refs at all, but idk what the solution is.. any suggestions?

players will always milk penalties….the video ref should be assisting the ref with those decisions if they can.

The answer is better ball security I actually thought we got the rub of the green with the calls to be honest

The penalty leading up to the second try was very doubtful Just a bad play the ball by Keefy imo

You could have the video ref review all stripping calls. Time off, wait for a ruling. This would take a fair bit of time and hold the game up but I think it is worth it to get the right ruling. Often you can see that the ref got it wrong in the first replay (not always). Penalties swing the momentum in a game and march teams upfield without them having to play effective attacking football. We need for refs to get them right if at all possible.

For example, we were dudded in the game v Souths when Liam was penalised for stripping and it was obvious from one replay that the call was wrong. Souths got field position in range for a try and did score to level the scores. That call had a huge impact on the result of the game and on Souths' and our positions in the 8 right now.

The touch judge could do more than escort his flag up and down the field. He had a perfect view of the penalty called against Blair and stood there like a statue. They are supposed to be assisting referees.

I agree that they should be referred to the video ref. with the advent of modern balls and sand-based grounds, kicking is more important than ever. A penalty is as good as a free 50 meters. Personally I reckon the refs aren't paying attention, because it's not as hard to tell as the ratio of bad calls would indicate.

Also, as a general rule, dropped balls fall down, while balls only go up when propelled. So, when in doubt, the way the ball comes out is a very good indication of whether it has been stripped or not.

Exactly what I was going to reply. Couldn't agree more. Reviewing strips/lost balls would almost completely guarantee the right team gets the ball.

They had an idea similar that they were talking about earlier in the year, we're the captain could question 1 or 2 referee rulings to be sent to the video ref for the opportunity for it to be reviewed.

I'm a little unsure by memory whether this was the ability to question any ruling or just certain things in the game, but just another option to think about. Say 1 captains query per half, although, if a team was penalized for a strip in the opposition half, they may not question the ruling (trying to save it for a more important call later in the half), but the opposition may score later in that set, preventing the team who had the ability to question the call going back and seeing what happened and having it possibly over ruled. Which could be an issue with this option..

All in all I think ALL strips/drop balls should be checked by the video ref though, wouldn't take long and would give the correct decision almost every time.

The one thing I will never understand is why forward passes cannot go to the video ref, I've seen so many tries from them it's not funny. And a review would clearly show a ball coming forward from the hands.
