Lachlan Galvin #277

Richo is doing everything he can to get Galvin to extend in an upgraded contract but let's be honest if you're Galvin you want to see how well we go in 2025 before committing to your future
No, if i'm Galvin i'm pocketing the extra 1.2 million over 2 years in a heartbeat and extending. How many 19 year olds sign deals for 3-4 million? He could even have second year syndrome and not be worth that much.
You'd have to be an atrocious agent to tell your client to earn over a million bucks less for no reason.

He will get the money regardless he will be in demand by virtually every club

I just don't want this to be a talking point during the season we don't need distractions

He is one of the fittest players in the league, look at guys like Dylan Edwards that are effort players. I'm going on a rant mate, sorry lol

No, for the next 2 years he will earn a total of 500k. That's his current contract. If he upgrades now he could be on 750k for those two years, meaning rather than 500k he earns currently he could be on 1.5 million for the same period of time, that no one else can offer him a cent for. If he extends a further 2 years then suddenly he'd be on very big money, and still be a free agent at age 23-24. Still another decade to chase comps if he hasn't won one with us by then.

If he buys into lets turn WT into what Panthers are, and Luai gets him hook line and sinker, then why not triple his earnings, committ to his club and mates, and still be free to leave in his early 20s if he wants to?

I read theyve told him to eat eat eat and aren't fussed he's getting stuck into the maccas.
Surely there's healthier options for him like mashed potato, pasta and cheese etc

It's good to see imo. I couldn't imagine eating 5k calories a day in boiled chicken and sweet potato and then having to do an NRL preseason, at a club that came last. He's still growing, his metabolism is probably insane. Of course, he's breaking time trials on the back of coming in early. If he gets a dinner box on the way home, its not exactly 'super size me'.

We need to be weary of signing him to a big deal, with big money comes big responsibilities. A lot that young kids can’t handle. Not just off the field but the pressure on the field. Think all the young great halves that signed deals for the dollar and how they ended up. Give him time to grow into his game and his status then the dollars will speak for themself.
That said, it was nice to hear in his presser that he intends on sitting down with Richo and his manager early next year. If he wasn’t keen on staying or extending he wouldn’t be including Richo in that conversation.

It’s supposed to be on top of your normal healthy diet, (extra calories), he needs something to burn up, but also something to turn into muscle. He’s probably going through calories quicker than he can eat them, I’m having a similar issue.
I used to work, and work out with muscle heads a bit and I’ve seen them devour 2x whole chickens, a hand full of boiled eggs and bread, and protein drinks and that’s just for morning tea.
Boiled chicken I think was for when they are going into an event and they eat NO FAT. Funny though I remember a mate trying to get down to weight for a fight and he was eating the bacon medallion only, in a pan with no oil, it’s supposed to be very lean.
Mmmmm Bacon 🥓.

If we don’t sign him to a big deal, someone else will. Would be stupid if we dug our heels in and he goes off to another club and becomes one of the games most elite players. We’ve been down that road before if I’m not mistaken.

He is starting for us; so he should be earning more then the guys that are our backups both on 500k so Galvin should at minimum be on maybe 550, 600k but nothing more, a longer term deal ie total package may be more enticing for security but it may come at a cost to the player’s long term earnings. Maybe an extra year extension / upgrade might be our best move. Lock him in to the end of 2027 or 2028 on about 600k a season

Will he be elite ? He is not overly strong or quick, below average kicking game.
Yes he is all effort can't see much else to make him elite.

Looking forward to see how these talks unfold.
Andrew John’s and Phil Gould have been busy bumping up Galvin’s value, but why?
There’s a lot riding on his 25 form. He looked like a rookie in the PMs 13, but that doesn’t mean a lot.
The club would be happy to pad his existing contract but they’ll want an extension. Given our poor relationship with his agent and the sackings of Sheens, McDonnell and Furner an extension may be a sticking point?
If you’re Galvin you’ll back yourself to have a breakout 25 and wait until later in the year?

Sounds like he could be one of these kids that when mum and dad cook up home made food , Mash , Veg , Sausages or steak he would rather put maccas in to his gut like a heap of kids do , it’s fast and easy and they can get it anytime , eg what times dinner mum 6 pm , ah I’m good I’m heading out at 5 il just grab maccas , I’ve heard it many times from my 2 , they liked it , Maccas , KFC , etc is young people food

Spot on mate , another club will easy pay $ 800 k or more over 4 years and if he does come out in 2025 and blast off again and kills it that $ 800 will come very easy probably more like 4 years $ 3.6 mill

The club has made him a priority and view him as a star. They aren’t gonna lowball him.
