Lack of leadership on the field

Our players have the skills to match most teams.
Our players now have the physical attributes to match most teams.
What we lack is mental toughness and grunt for 80 minutes. And that comes from onfield leadership from Farah and other senior players in the team. People who will join hands with their mates and fight to the death. Farah is a great player, but I dont see him or Anasta, or Lawrence or Blair, being this player.
We need someone in the ilk of Mick Crocker or Greg Bird to get down and dirty and inspire the others.
You look at Manly, and as much as I hate them, you know they are going to be a tough team. You look at Wests and know they arent that side (but on occasion can be ala vs. Melbourne last year).
I think a recruitment priority needs to be an onfield leader, someone you would want next to you in the trenches to inspire you to victory. Someone to complement the youth and skills.

I don't think we have the size to match many sides at all to be honest

We always seem to be a season behind every club

Many of our forwards lack size in their legs compared to many other clubs

well i guess the way to fix that is drop anasta and replace him with another kid with with 20 games under his belt.

Each player needs to do his job and not try and do someone elses as well. Farah is the captain…he's our dummy half, but he can't be our halfback or 5/8...leave those jobs to others. If you look at less talented sides that perform better than expected they normally keep it all simple....each player has his job to do and he does it. Look at Melb and their 2nd hand forwards...Bellamy has them doing their job and the brilliance comes down to Smith/Cronk & Slater....we need to operate the same.

Before buying or resigning any new players we need to employ a full time professional to do our recruiting. Our recruiting is the worst of any club in the NRL.

We have been told Mcdonnell no longer does the senior recruiting Sheens is gone so who is responsible Potter ? Mayer ?
To me it looks like the policy hasn't changed from the last few years. Buy players no one else wants and hope for the best.

Agree 100%

Richards seems fine but Lulia and Patterson appear to be a waste of money IMO. Not up to NRL.

And the previous year Bodene, Pettybourne and Braith haven't worked out either.

I think Austin has potential though, and my diehard Panthers mate was very upset they let him go. Hope we give him a good run in first grade.

Good Post…

Leadership is somewhat blurred through the lack of Professionalism I think from time to time at our club... We can have so many leaders, but if they cant execute the 1%'s within there individual roles on the field, the presence is somewhat lost on others. As fans, we sometimes glorify players who cover for the mistakes of others, but simply, these players are also just as responsible for moving away from the structure. It all comes back to Professionalism and Discipline within the Whole Squad.

Smith/Cronk/Slater are nothing without the discipline shown by guys like Jesse Bromwich, Will Chambers, Ryan Hinchcliffe & Ryan Hoffman within the Melbourne Team... These Blokes are the real hero's for Melbourne!

That is why Melbourne do so well. Everyone has a job to do, and the senior players make sure they execute it 100%. Sure they have 3 great players, but also a lot of Neville's, and when someone is out injured, somewhat slots in to do that job, and it causes minimum disruption.

Sometimes our lack of onfield cohesion just baffles me. I know they can do it, so it comes down to consistency and people on the field demanding everyone do their job.
