Centre Chris Lawrence remains confident he will return from a hamstring injury in time for Wests Tigers’ opening finals match.
Lawrence suffered the hamstring injury in setting up the match winning try over St George-Illawarra Dragons at the SFS a fortnight ago.
He plans to have his first light jog tomorrow ahead of more work next week before hitting top speeds the week of the Sharks match in the final round of the Telstra Premiership.
A true professional, Lawrence remains optimistic about rushing back too soon.
“I will do everything I can to get back on the field. We will assess it. If I am right to come back a week earlier, then I’m right. If not, if I have to wait an extra week, I will wait,’’ he said.
“I feel like our left side of the field has been cursed with Lote and me having these injuries. It is just one of those things. There is not much you can do except put your head down and do your best to get back on the field.”
Lawrence said the mood in the camp was good after five straight wins but said his team-mates were very wary of taking on the lowly placed Parramatta Eels at the Sydney Football Stadium this Sunday.
“It is good to see us play some consistent footy. We have all had belief in our ability and we know what we can do when we put it together,’’ Lawrence said.
“The first half of the year we were not doing that. It was quite frustrating for everyone. It is just good to see that all the hard work we have done off the field is starting to pay off.
“Even though the Eels haven’t been getting a lot of wins, they have been playing some really good footy and just haven’t been getting over the line.
“It was only 5-6 weeks ago they towelled us up so we are going to have to be on our game if we want to win.”
