Luke Brooks says Wests Tigers can cover for injury to Robbie Farah

Boom Wests Tigers halfback Luke Brooks believes the club has the depth to cover for the loss of skipper Robbie Farah after he was taken to Campbelltown Hospital with a dislocated elbow.

Farah could be heard through the referee's microphone as he screamed in agony after reeling out of a 78th minute tackle.Tigers coach Mick Potter said the NSW hooker had been in pain when the team returned to the dressing room after their gritty 16-4 defeat of North Queensland.

He was later seen hopping into an ambulance with his right arm in a brace.
Strength in depth: the Tigers believe they have the roster to compete at the top this year.

"Robbie is in a bit of pain, he needed a bit of oxygen" Potter said.

Brooks said he hoped Farah wouldn't be sidelined for long but he was confident Wests could cover for their leader after being forced to play without Braith Anasta and James Tedesco against the Cowboys.

"That is what has been good about this year, if we have had an injury we have got players to back up so that has been good," Brooks said.

"It didn't look too good for Robbie so hopefully he is not out for too long. He was in a bit of pain but once he got the [oxygen] mask on I think that went. On the field it sounded like he was in a lot of pain so hopefully he is OK."

It was reported that Farah's elbow joint had gone back in without any problem in an indication the injury isn't too serious.

The Tigers also lost debutant fullback Kurtis Rowe with a hip flexor injury in the second half but it didn't affect their rhythm, while stand in five-eighth Blake Austin was one of the team's best in his first NRL appearance for the club.

With Braith Anasta returning from suspension, Potter faces a selection dilemma for the Easter Monday clash with Parramatta at ANZ Stadium.

"I think they both went real well in their first run," Brooks said.

"I played once with Blake in a trial but we haven't played much footy together so it was good to build on those combos.

"He went really well, he belongs in first grade so it is going to be a tough decision for the coach next week between him and Braith [Anasta] and myself."

Start Fulton at 9 with Luani on the bench.

Bring one of the big boys in to start in the backrow.

Like it or not, we cant expect to have 4 big forwards on the bench with Farah out. Its too big of an ask to have a young hooker play 80 minutes.

Would rather start with Luani and put Fulton in hooker for 20 mins when Luani needs a break. It also means we can retain our bench as it is.

Fulton at 9 hasn't worked when the master coach was in charge so why go backwards . Harry is giving some young guys a chance in the top grade and it's paying dividends , so give a young hooker his chance , we had 10 years of playing players out of position.

As I've posted under another topic, I'd like to see Blake Austin at hooker if Robbie is out. I reckon he'd handle it and he belongs in this team somewhere.

Who can take on Farah's work load? I don't see it. We may be able to get past it, but to replace Farah with a like for like is going to be difficult.

yes agree
Austin could be a good option
shows initiative, has a kicking game…. a similar style to Farah in many ways
am not a fan of putting players out of position, but, might work here

I have a massive feeling Farah will play, just can't see him sitting on the sidelines after the start we have had. We have a 9 day turn around, he will get pain killers and play.

i think potter has already shown us he will only replace like for like.

if farah cant play im certain luani will play 9\. austin back to state cup and anasta at 5/8\. brooks didn't quite impress against cowboys so i have a feeling with farah out- he will have to take on more responsibility and finally have that killer game against eels.

hope kurtis is ok. if not, then simona will go to FB and lulia back in.

x 2, seems like the best option to me.

This is where Halatau would have been very handy for us :frowning:

Confirmed 6 weeks. Huuuuuuge loss. He has been on fire this year.

Do we go with Luani or Cherrington?

In last season's August match against Dragons Farah didn't play and was replaced by Luani. Anasta and Brooks ere also in the team. Worked out really well and can't see why we shouldn't use the same combo next week if Farah is indisposed.

yeah huge loss, we just can't get a good break from the injuries.

Whatever we do, we can't muck around with the bench, I think the only real option is replacing one hooker for another.

Just throwing one out of left field, with Anasta back next week, can Austin play hooker?

I'd prefer the Fulton/Luani option, maybe start with Fultz for the first 20mins or so, then shift Fulton to the backrow to give a forward a rest and bring on Luani to hooker.

However, I'm not too familiar with Blake Austin's game, perhaps he's an option? Would give us that extra kicking option that Fulton wouldn't, and he's a better ball runner.

I'd give Austin a try. His speed off the mark and passing game will suit us well with the go forward we have, plus he has a kicking game. Defensively he may not get through as much work as Farah, but he adds a lot to our attack.

What a huge loss. Will make or break our season.

I hope Potter sticks with like for like.

Worked last night and not doing it was Sheens biggest failing.
