I am wondering if anyone thinks Brooks might be worth sending down to NSW cup for a couple of weeks to work on a few things in his game? I am not having a go at the kid but he is still young and I am wondering if it would help his game at all. If it was to happen would a Anasta/Austin halves combo work?

I want to stress I am not having a go at Brooks, I just think it might help his development maybe? Thoughts?

I sorta agree with you but not entirely, the majority of his performance was because Tedesco and Anasta weren't there. they have a great combination going and I would be interested to see how it progresses through out this season when Teddy comes back, next year Anasta will not be with us and therefore we will need Brooks to have the experience to be able to lead the team around the park.

Austin is almost guaranteed the 6 for next year, Moses is brilliant in attack but is still a couple of years off in defence, there is no way he will be able to tackle a massive Dave Taylor without getting injured. There is a 10kg difference between Brooks and Moses and yet Brooks still struggles in defence.

Anasta is a leader, his experience in invaluable to this side and he will most likely come back into the 6 this week, I don't have any complaints although I would like to see Austin in the side somewhere. I think Potter may be a little Sheenius this round and play Simona at fullback and Austin at centre.

Brooks is going fine. Sure he didnt carve up last night but he more than held his own. Playing State Cup will not help his development.

Really no point talking about this because it isnt going to happen.

That's your problem and Brooks right there. There is too much cotton wool, babying. He needs to step up already on his own and make his mark.

The kid absolutely smashed the cows big boys a few times last night in defence and is holding his own in attack, to the point where he is better than a lot of others in the nrl… It would be a huge step backwards and damaging to his mindset to drop him back down... He's going fine... Let him grow.

i agree that he hasn't been at his best however, i would refrain from dropping him.

he has played 7 games now and hasn't looked out of sorts. he doesn't deserve to be dropped. we started with anasta and brooks and neither of them deserve to be dropped.

keep it simple.

What exactly does he need to work on?

long kicking game.
passing game- as a halfback it's extremely shameful that he couldnt convert a 2 on 1 to put patty over yesterday
defense obviously
gain a little confidence as a dominant playmaker- he's still playing second fiddle to robbie/anasta and rightly so.

he's a lot to work on- however, he can work on most of the things in NRL. he's the incumbent halfback and doesn't deserve to be dropped.

He is nowhere near being dropped.

A stint in State Cup is only beneficial when a young player loses confidence. Luke is oozing confidence and dropping him would only hurt his development.

Nothing shameful for a 6 game rookie just kicking off in the top grade…

Pointless taking a step BACK now when not required...the forwards are going forward its prime time for him to get to work on what he needs to in the top grade...it would be difficult for him if we were getting dominated...but its perfect for him right now

Exactly. I would be shielding him if we were still getting run over like last year, but as we are at worst holding our own, he should be developing his game in the top grade. He is already above reserve grade standard.

The kid is playing great …fans see what they want to see at times, the defensive side of the kids game was fantastic last night.he will be playing as the coach wants at this stage I can see that as his running game is on the back burner at this stage as the introduction into the NRL progresses.

You serious dude? You blame Brooks for Wright's attempted interception? Nothing wrong with pass.

You do realise we play other human beings and not robots dont you?

Luke is developing really well… While we have a Forward Pack which is making meters, it wont matter as much as long as Anasta is out there running the team. Most of the forum are excited with the good stuff he 'does' and this has clouded many judges from really looking at his game as a whole.

Ultimately, he is a Halfback and he has a far greater responsibility out there than he has been doing. As he develops, he will slowly need to start taking on more leadership and directing the team. There was 2 occasions last night where it was obvious Farah was frustrated with both the Halves, and on both occasions Robbie really motivated Luke to make some choices. Luke show'd hesitation, but he did make choices and this was great to see. [1 was good, 1 was fluff]

If we lack intensity over the next weeks and start losing the ruck, maybe time in Reggies will help him. Until this happens, this kid is gona be a Star so the more NRL Game time the better.

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK LUKE!!!

Sacking Luke would be a bone headed move.
The parts of his game that are lacking can only be taught through repitition in the top level.
He is doing an apprenticeship in the toughest ball, full contact, sport in the world and holding his own.
I urge you to give him three months then revisit this thread….
