Lulia keen to impress in return to the NRL

While other Wests Tigers players travelled close to two hours for this week’s South Coast training camp, new recruit and Port Kembla resident Keith Lulia definitely had the shortest of journeys.

Head Coach Mick Potter re-located training over the past three days throughout Gerringong and Kiama, with the short distance to training a welcome change for Lulia.

“I still live down in Port Kembla and I make the trip up to Concord each day,” Lulia said. “It takes just over an hour but I’ve gotten used to it and I’m happy where I am.”

“It’s about time I had my turn (laughs), it only took me 20 minutes today and it’s really good for the boys to get down here and see what a nice place it is.”

After stints at St George Illawarra, Newcastle and Super League Club Bradford, the evasive outside back is confident that his new Club is the right fit as he pushes for a return to the NRL.

“When I first came in all of the boys were very welcoming and the staff are nice,” Lulia said. “I’m still finding my feet and getting to know the boys a bit better but I think I’m fitting in pretty well.”

During his two-year stint with Bradford, Lulia scored 22 tries in 52 games and was coached by Potter in his first season (2012).

“I like being coached my Mick (Potter), he is straight forward and doesn’t beat around the bush,” Lulia said.

“He tells you it straight and that’s what most Rugby League players want to hear.”

While Chris Lawrence and Tim Simona look to be the first choice centre pairing, Lulia is aiming to lock down a spot in the team and will use the upcoming trial matches as a chance to impress.

“My goal is obviously to have a permanent spot in the team and play the whole season in first grade,” Lulia said. “I’m hoping I can bring that little spark to each game.”

Dint rate him at all when he was at the dragons/knights. I doubt he's got any better in the ESL. Was slow and didn't seem to have a lot of skill….is a good size though.

Depth at best, in saying that it's hard to imagine him being any worse then Reddy..would have fathered we got Daniela or Brown back though.

Well Potter coached him in the ESL and thought enough of him to bring him out here…....if there is any trust in Potter then this bloke should go ok.

Will only be used as a backup centre..cant see him being a permanent fixture in the 17 TBH

Can't complain about the depth we have this year. Bring experience in a youthful backline.
Could be valuable if we have a few injuries.

I expect to see him named in the team come round 1\. He was brought in for his defensive abilities and as stated Potter has selected him. Some more highly rated younger backs might find them selves in reggies come round 1 rather that the other way around I believe.

I expect to see Lulia, Lawrence and Richards all in the backline v dragons.

Simona is out injured so Lulia is an excellent chance to join Lawrence in the Centres.

Backline

Teddy
Nofo
Lawrence
Lulia
Richards

Anasta
Brooks

I honestly think nofo is almost first picked.

He was our most consistant last year!
