Tough game for them. Consistency looks to be their main concern at the moment.

Wentworthville secured a top four placing after they defeated Western Suburbs 28-18 at Leichhardt Oval last Saturday afternoon.

The game was played in the inner west in order to give all Wentworthville players and officials the opportunity to cheer on the Magpies in the Bundaberg Red Cup grand final. The match was played following the NSW Cup match

Western Suburbs had the better of play in the opening stages of the game but were not able to convert their chances into points.

The Wentworthville Magpies had limited opportunities but were able to post the first points of the game when Junior Paulo was first to a kick from Mark O’Grady into the in-goal area in the 17th minute.

Soon after, Wentworthville were almost in again when a high bomb bounced off the goal-posts padding and almost ended up in a try to Tim Mortimer. But the Wenty knocked on in the process of trying to score.

The Wentworthville Magpies increased their lead to 10-0 when winger Etu Uaisele scored after a great break from Martin Lewis.

There was no love lost between both sides and referee David Munro had enough when he sent Western Suburbs forward Daine Laurie was sent to the sin bin just two minutes before the break.

The Wentworthville Magpies scored two tries in the space of three minutes early in the second half to lead 22-0.

The first try came in the 46th minute when Mortimer split the defence and then put half-back Shane Croft on his way to the try line.

Three minutes later, a Wentworthville kick looked set to roll over the touch line. A quick thinking Etu Uaisele palmed the ball back infield. Jeremy Latimore and Brendan Oake kept the ball alive before Croft raced away to score his second try of the game.

Western Suburbs bounced back to score through Charlie Herekotukutuku in the 56th minute when he stepped inside the defence before racing over to score adjacent to the posts.

Five minutes later, Western Suburbs hooker Samual Hoare burrowed over to score. Levi Freeman added the extras to get to within 10 points at 22-12.

Just as Western Suburbs were getting back in the game, Wentworthville Magpies skipped further ahead when Croft registered his third try of the game with a great weaving run to the line.

Western Suburbs never gave up and finished the game with a 74th minute try to Rhys Pritchard, his 17th for the season.
