Coach Michael Maguire will sit down with Robbie Farah over the next 24 hours to explore the chances of his star hooker playing against the Sharks at Leichhardt Oval next Sunday.

He said Farah had to see specialists and doctors this week in combination with the work he's been doing with Wests Tigers physio and medical staff over the past fortnight. He fractured his tibia three weeks ago.

Farah has been running on the anti-gravity treadmill, so has not put the full force of his body weight on his left leg. He cracked a bone but has not needed to undergo surgery as yet.

The issue has been if Farah plays on it, he could damage the leg further and then need an operation to have screws inserted.

Maguire said he had no gut feeling.

"I really don't know. It's one of those ones where he could go to the surgeon and be told 'You can't play'. Until he actually does that I'm only guessing," Maguire said.

"I just spoke to Robbie and the last thing he's going to do is put himself forward if he can't play.

"So we've got to make some big decisions around that. I've also been really pleased with how the boys have found their game in the last couple of weeks," he said of the back-to-back triumphs against the Knights and Sunday's big win over the Dragons.

Maguire couldn't predict if he would name Farah on Tuesday in the hope he made it through to next Sunday.

"I'm talking again to Robbie tomorrow and work out the plan around that. I'll grab Robbie over the next 24 hours and talk to the doctors and physios and see where we are.

"We definitely won't be taking any risks."

The same safety-first theory was behind none of the Wests Tigers coaching staff telling the players the score from the earlier Sharks-Canberra game on Sunday.

Cronulla's loss gives more impetus to the 2019 Tigers finals campaign – they have not made the eight since 2011.

"We didn't speak about it. We can only control what we can do on the field and the boys were very focused around that," Maguire said.

He said he only found out the result himself at half-time. But the Sharks' loss played no part in his dressing-room sheds speech at the break.

"We didn't want to know about it … it was quite irrelevant to us. We were trying to do certain things in our game and we had to make sure we did that."

Benji Marshall has started at hooker for the past fortnight after replacement hooker Jacob Liddle suffered a season-ending knee injury in round 22. Josh Reynolds has come in around the 30th minute the past two games to provide extra spark.

"It's obviously the plan we've had the last couple of weeks. But Grubby [Reynolds] is starting to get match-fit too. So the opportunities of actually starting Josh are there.

"We'll have a look at things this week and see what's best for the team."

Didnt sound like he was even considering it during the post match. I think he will see it as a distraction and will make the call early internally. May still allow it to play out in the press.

I think the club and Robbie should let this play out in the press until 24 hours before kick off. The will he won't he will be the talking point and the rest of the boys can get on without the distracting talk of what a big game it is. Tell Robbie his role this week is to play foil to the media. He can't help on the field but can play a role off it.

Thinking the same. Internally they'll call it early but let it play out in the press for the week

Madge is a Premiership coach.

He is not a nuffy coach like in the past.

He will make the right call whatever that is. I have full faith

I can’t see Madge letting Farah play. He cares about his players he won’t let him risk a lifetime of pain for a game.

In addition Farah would only put his hand up if we had no options and he had to play even injured to have a chance. The form of Benji and Reynolds is good he won’t want to play underdone and risk injury and also hurting the team.

I’m a Farah fan and I’m not naive enough to think the last two wins with poor opposition make us better. In big games Farah at 100% is straight in. Reality is he won’t be fully fit for this game.

@TYGA
In the last 2 games our halves have been receiving quick clean ball from DH and as a result Brooks and Marshall have probably played their best games of the season. And points have flowed according Farah has not been able to provide that. Grub has also provided energy and spark. Would anyone really consider changing this simply to play someone who would more than likely breakdown in the first 10.

Lol, Reynolds had very little to do with our victories. His service out of dummy half is not fast.

The Sharks will not ever worry about Farah playing at all .. they like the rest of us know he is into a 4th week rehab period that requires minimum 6 weeks to rectify a broken leg at the earliest and that is to carry out normal duties!

Not sure many would agree with that summary.

@rustycage I certainly thought the Grub had an impact on the game .. The was no energy until he appeared.

I agree with @Tatts888 . When Reynolds takes a step sideways and then passes the ball, it slows the play down significantly, everyone has to stop an wait for the pass. When he takes a step or two forward he gets the attack moving forward and we look dangerous. Unfortunately most of his passes from dummy half are the former.

To be fair Reynolds service from DH is not great but he definitely made an impact on the game and played well. Handy player to have when the team needs a spark.

Yes I believe that if Farah does (not) play, it's because a coach who has gone all the way and knows what it takes to win a premiership is making the call that he believes will get the result.

Nonetheless I believe the club should be playing the game all week and keep Cronulla guessing.

Yep. He'll be named in the 21 tomorrow which will have the media eating it up and continue to push the story imo

As emergency hookers go he's far from the worst option. You can see how much extra defence is having to be done by playing Marshall/Reynolds at 9, though, by the way we're using interchanges rotating the back row. Fortunately we only have back rowers left in the squad after the starting 13 and if someone gets injured on the field we're pretty much knackered anyway, so might as well keep rolling the dice.
