I think the kid is only 22, so I can understand why he might have only just been starting to break into a 1st grade Wigan side. Does anyone know if there was an incumbent lock over in Wigan that could have kept him out of the side?

Untapped potential as far as I'm concerned. Sheens might have made a very astute buy here.

Yeah, Wigan's lock, Sean O'Laughin, walks into the GB test side when fit. Flanagan is rated so highly though, that O'Laughlin was going to move into the 2nd row or the bench to fit Flanagan into the side.

Yeah, I agree. I think the fact that he can/has played as a 5/8 aswell gives off the impression that he isn't that big.

Dunno what currency you're talking about, but the pound is worth way more than the Aus dollar…

Figure of speech Hybrid. The Pound is down almost 50% against the Aussie from its peaks. The exchange rate and tax benefits used to make it very attractive for Aussies to play in the UK, but the currency situation has changed dramatically and I think the tax benefits have reduced for non UK residents - not sure how it impacts UK residents.
