Maybe its time to go to Perth

Don't get me wrong I hope it is not on the cards. I would find it hard to be attached to a team over team. However i would still follow them if they were called Wests Tigers. Im not advocating the move mearly raising the fact the NRL and any potential board, CEO might see it is a sensible move.

I just wonder we always seem to be struggling. 15 years and only a few have come good.

* Infighting
* No money
* Balmain is broke., Ctwn doesnt follow the team
* run down grounds and training base
* Can't attract players
* Struggling for sponsors
* Dwindling fan base
* Dwindling crowds

I know the wheel can turn and clubs have their ups and downs. However with the jam packed sydney market we seem to be always just making up the numbers. Someone will eventually get squeezed out and maybe the club that makes the move will benefit who knows.

We go to Perth, keep the same name and get the money and the sponsors rolling in. Some fans would stick tight (maybe i dunno?) and you would have a whole new base base over there.

I expect to be shot down, but maybe it is a sensible option if we continue to be a basket case and a poor struggler on and off the pitch.

Eddie…you speak a lot of sense..

Yeah…...Nah

Why would Perth want us....don't they deserve their own team

Bloody hell , and I thought the drive from Gladstone to Townsville was bad

I'll have to leave Xmas Day to make it to a game in time

Eddie your posts are generally very thought out and make a lot of sense.
However I think you are overreacting on this one. Our season massively derailed IMO due to injuries being the main factor. Sure other things have happened that certainly have not helped and the last month has left a terrible taste in our mouths but as a club I believe we can overcome it.

NZ has a team

Then we could pick any country in the west.
How about Norway?
Now they know how to manage their money.
Not to mention cheap ice baths.

Maybe i am over reacting however i am also a realist, i try and look at it coldly. I know the injuries have been shocking. However our high performance team and training base is surely a factor here? At least to an extent

How are we going to attract members and sponsors next year with this utter shambolic and highly embarrassing end to the season on and off the pitch? We are a complete laughing stock in the press and in the rugby league public at the minute. Our members will go further down and our sponsors as well for a club that is cash strapped. We don't even have 10k members, next year i will be susprised if thy get 6-7k.

Lets remember the NRL are already propping the club up. We have already come begging for help. Soon they will have control. Once they have control what is to stop them moving the team to Perth? It would make sense for them? It would make sense for the competition? It would maybe even make snense for the club i dont know.

Of course i want the team to stay in Sydney forever however I am also a realist. We are far below nearly all clubs in several areas (marquee players, sponsors, money, grounds, etc etc) A couple more years like this and we will be in quick sand.

Well thought out post Eddie….This club has Fitzroy Lions circa mid 1990's written all over it ATM....

I'd give it a few more years to see if we can turn it around with a new board, young playing group, possible permanent long term move to ANZ etc. but if we can't make any traction then I think our viability/relevance in Sydney has to come into serious question.....

In saying that the NRL surely wants a team assuming custodianship of the burgeoning south west region and no other team would do that without sacrificing at least in part connection to their own areas.......I think Cronulla given they're landlocked and in a non-growth region are still the logical choice for relocation.....

I've been having an out of body experience and thinking the same thoughts… It seems like we are on a downward spiral and I'm not sure a new coach, captain or CEO would make a difference.

That would be the end for me though, I don't think I would bother following them.

Then again, having late starts for all your home games gives you plenty of time to get liquored up...

Which is nice

Check your heads people. Tigers are not from Perth are you seriously saying you would support a team you could rarely see a home game with and weren't born into. For me the tigers die if we move cities.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record. Yeah great! bring it over here. I'll then get to see 3 years of tigers home games before they disintegrate into dust. You blokes that have this fascination about expanding the code over here are absolutely off with the pixies. The public hates the game, it's supporters and anything positive that comes out of the game. They adore all the crap that spews out of the NRL from drunken nights on the town to alleged sexual assault and violence,people pi55ing in their own mouths to home made sex tapes, the media steadfastly refuses to promote the game in any way, shape or form to the point where the grand final highlights shown on the news is perhaps the final moment of one try put down in the game and maybe the raising of the trophy. If there is ever a move on the cards by Wests or Cronulla or whoever else, then they should go anywhere but here. Take it to people that are open to the game. People who love it. QLD or central coast are the only options really. You think VIC is AFL mad? Believe me, WA is every bit as obsessed as those knobs. I'd go as far as saying that they would even outdo them in the "crazies" stakes. I'd rather see them battle on in Sydney than die in this joint.

It didn't work last time - wont work this time. Queensland and the Central Coast only two options for new teams and they have got juniors and interest in both those areas. We need to fix what is happening here.

I think perth might be the go . we would then get rid of the clowns running our club they are a disgrace . its left to Robbie and potter to do the talking mayer and the board hide in their bunkers

Totally agree about the High performance team and Training facilities being an issue. Injuries at our club have been a huge problem for quite some time now and never seems to improve. Training facilities by all reports are well under standard compared to other teams which most definitely would have some sort of bearing on injury rehab. I was actually hopeful that the internal review done by B.Smith was focussing on this issue as I think its at the root of our problems. If we could consistently get our top 17 out on the field I would be confident that we would be sitting nicely in the top 8 right now.

Attracting members over the off season will be a difficult task. As you stated traditionally we struggle to attract members at the best of times. Sponsors want to be associated with a winning team that gets them the most exposure. Obviously the winning part lets us down regularly but even when we have a poorly performing team we still get quite a lot of exposure in the press and are a popular team with Channel 9 showing a lot of our games on free to air which sponsors love.
Both fans & sponsors will need to see improvements made in the offseason if they are going to invest their cash in our club via membership/sponsorship.
Firstly the NRL needs to appoint their 3 new board directors ASAP. Then we can finalise the remaining members from Wests and Balmain. Until this happens our club seems to be just circling in a holding pattern. Genuine leadership at board level is required to progress, Im hopeful the new NRL directors will provide this and bring some sort of resolution to the constant Wests/Balmain squabbling at board level that's been derailing our club for 15 years.
Once the board is in place then its time to sort out the CEO, Coaching, recruitment and Medical/Training staff.
The decisions on all these are crucial especially the CEO and Coaching Staff, a smart decision here that's popular with Fans + Sponsors could really build momentum with the fans during the offseason. Make the right decisions on these hiring's and its far easier to market the club to the fan base and bring in the much needed membership and sponsors.
Very important offseason for the club coming up. If we make the right moves and going by the clubs track record it probably is a big IF then Im positive that the club can progress in the right direction. I have to think that having 3 independent directors supplied by the NRL can only help us.
Overall the playing roster is strong, yes it needs a lot of improvement in certain areas but the base for a good team is certainly there. Once you start winning games then amazingly all the negative stuff you see in the press seems to disappear. Just look at Manly, their club is almost as dysfunctional as ours but they get the results each year.
No need for us to hit the eject button just yet.

Could the NRL move us. Well yes if they continually have to prop us up financially they probably could. However everything I read/hear from the NRL is that they lean towards expansion over relocation so I think things would have to be bad for quite some time under their guidance before they would even consider moving us to Perth or anywhere else for that matter. Of course I'm in no position to know for sure but that's how I see it at the moment.
