Mid Season Trades

Hi all,

Just wondering what people's thoughts are on us trading some players out to give them Finald exposure.

For e.g. trading Laurie to Storm as a replacemetn for Papenhuyzen for the year.
Or let's say if Lachlan Ilias gets injured at Rabbits, we can give them Brooks.

This will give us some salary cap relief for the year and give one of the young guns an opportunity to play Finals football.

Similar to what Broncos did with TPJ last year but he was going to Bulldogs next year.

I understand the last day to do this is August 1, but even in the future, I feel this could make NRL a bit more interesting.

😂😂😂

Lauries' effort wouldn't last 15 minutes on the park in a Storm side....

Doesn't make sense at all if they don't get to keep the player, unless they are off contract the following season.

What are we going to do with Nofa after his Melbourne stint?

Yay, saves us money now to spend on players later... wait they don't want to come here because of how we conduct business. I thought money wasn't an issue with our record memberships and hat sales.

The usage of 'trade' infers that we're getting something in return.
I'm fine with it for departing players and just gaining the cap space, but letting key members of our FG run on side go without anything in return seems silly to me.
If we were running close to the cap then I could see some attraction, but as it is we have oodles of cap space for the forseeable future.

I like the idea of mid-seasons trade but needs to have limitations on how many a top 8 side could obtain. My limit would be 2 players per season.

I think it would be a great experience for David as he has only played for one club and never in a finals series.

I am hoping he comes back a better player under Bellamy or if not is traded to someone like the Eels.

Maybe Melbourne should be sending WT a quality backrower in engaged?

$$$$ relief

apparently we are getting 100k towards this year's cap

I reckon we should also look at giving Liddle/Simpkin to Roosters- they get finals experience and we get another 50k that we can probably pay towards letting Brooks go next year.

The MLB Trade deadline is in a few days as well. There will be plenty of movement, and most of the big names that move will be guys on struggling teams with only a few months left under contract.
Nevertheless, their teams will get something in return, usually young prospects, even though they're effectively only giving up a few months of a contracted player.
Would be good to see a similar system implemented here.

I think it's more about front loading contracts for 2023 and getting rid of deadwood.
We already have plenty of scope for front-loading.
Getting rid of deadwood is another thing - there's obviously some attitude/off-field issues with Nofo, so this is likely the start of him being moved on permanently.

If he learns to defend and not rush in then I'm all for it.

To be honest he and ken are our best wingers. But wouldn't mind seeing Tupou back in to give him experience.

This year is irrelevant. Especially when we get shafted by the refs regularly.
