DT article said 100k over in 2016 and they self-report.

Canterbury are reportedly in breach of the NRL salary cap by about $100,000.

The Seven Network on Wednesday night reported the Bulldogs, some months ago, had discovered they were over the cap for 2017 and alerted the NRL.

Canterbury face a probable hefty fine for the breach.

The original figure is believed to have been up to $160,000.

Bulldogs chief executive Raelene Castle, however, told Seven News she is confident it will be less than $100,000 by the time the final numbers are crunched within a few weeks.

By self-reporting to the NRL, it is anticipated Canterbury will be fined an amount equivalent to the final breach amount, rather than being hit with a possible deduction of premiership points.

CANTERBURY will escape with a fine after self-reporting to the NRL they were $100,000 over the salary cap for the 2016 season.

As reported by Seven News on Wednesday night, the Bulldogs discovered they were over the salary cap for last season and alerted the NRL.

It’s understood the original figure was $160,000, but Canterbury officials remain hopeful the final fine could be reduced as low as $100,000.

Can't trust the tele…

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs are likely to breach the 2017 salary cap by $100,000 (or $160,000 depending on who's reporting it).

Bulldogs officials noticed the problem a few months ago and in an act of transparency, notified the NRL of its findings straight away.

It's not likely at all that they will be stripped of points but once the number is defined, the Bulldogs will most likely be fined the amount the Bulldogs have breached the salary cap by....

Should have plenty of room for Moses in 2018 tho...

But we will have plenty of cap space in 2018 as well.

I guess then the question is can we surround our play makers with quality players to give us real title shot - cause other than that we are as good a chance as any to secure them.

If thats the case, surely they must have to shed a player to then be under the cap.

That's the thing, if they're over for next season the solution is simple. Get rid of a player or two and you're sweet. No way the NRL would let a club intentionally breach the cap.

The breach would have to be for 2016\. Contracts run til November so it makes sense that someone miscalculated some bonuses or 2nd tier players which pushed them over when they conducted a review at the end of the season.

In the end they'd have the option of keep Reynolds or make a play for someone else, like Moses. But there's a heap of players available so who's to say they wouldn't aim for someone more experienced to play alongside their other young half.
