>
UNDER-PRESSURE Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens may be shopped around to the New Zealand Warriors.
>
The Daily Telegraph understands Sheens will meet Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys and chairman Davod Trodden this week to discuss the club's horrible season.
>
Pre-season favourites, Wests Tigers won 11 of 24 games this year to miss the NRL finals.
>
Sheens' position at the club was heavily discussed at a recent Wests Tigers board meeting. He still has two years remaining on his current deal - the payout and expense of hiring a new coach could cost the club about $1 million.
>
Wests Tigers are financial battlers, although the new broadcast deal will give all clubs some financial freedom.
>
Sources close to the Warriors are aware Sheens' future at Concord has suddenly become clouded. The Warriors are watching the situation closely.
>
Wests Tigers officials are publicly supporting Sheens, despite the Tigers end-of-season misery.
>
Some figures at the Tigers though feel Sheens has achieved all he can at the club and that the playing group is stale.
>
There isn't though an enormous amount of well credentialed coaches on the open market at the moment. If Sheens wanted to leave for Auckland, the club wouldn't stand in his way.
>
Humphreys said Sheens position was "not under review".
>
The Warriors are searching for a new coach after punting Brian McClennan a month ago.
>
The Warriors have also been linked to Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy. Bellamy has another season remaining at AAMI Park and would be reluctant to leave the Storm playing group. He is particularly close to Melbourne's 'big three'-- Cooper Cronk, Billy Slater and Cam Smith.
>
Bellamy has also been linked to the Sydney Roosters, who are expected to part company with Brian Smith after next season.
>
Sheens has won four premierships to stamp himself among the coaching elite. He has though made the finals just three times in the past 15 years. Sheens masterminded Wests Tigers stunning grand final win in 2005 but the club has failed to reach any similar heights since.
>
Tigers legend Steve Roach told Channel 10's The Game Plan that Sheens should be moved on.

Sheens is now under massive pressure. The Dragons win last night means the club finished 10th instead of a lofty 9th which is generally a pass mark for Sheens.

So he does or doesn't have the full support of the board?

Before the mass get rid of calls start getting louder…who is going to replace him? We've all seen what happens when you get an under prepared coach - Terry Lamb, Stephen Kearney, Brian McLennan et al. If the board decides that it is time for new coach - they have be so very careful in making this decision. There aren't a lot of top coaches who are available at the moment and you can't just replace someone willy nilly otherwise you get into a coach spiral that takes seasons to come out of...just ask the Eels. Had Daniel Anderson 2009 GF - he got sacked - everyone has seen what has happened after that. So whilst it probably is his time, they have to make certain they get an able replacement.

Please let this be true! Personally I'd love to see Steve Folkes come back. Supposedly the players thought he was too hard on them and made them work too hard which is why he left. A bit of HTFU sounds exactly like what they need after the era of poppa sheens.

Also, I'm confused where this $1m to replace him comes from. How much is he on???

Supposedly, as we missed the finals, we can get rid of sheens for half his contract. Not sure if that is half the total 3 years (in which case we only owe him half a year) or half of the remaining two years in which case we'd owe a full year.

Worst case of the above two, if we have to pay out a full year then that would be what, $300k, maybe $400 (or am I majorly underestimating what a supposedly 'top' coach gets paid?) at most for 2013\. Either way there's no remaining sheens cost in 2014.

Then we pay the new guy whatever he earns in 2013 and 2014 (no 'top' coaches on the market so maybe $250-300k?).

Therefore in 2013 we pay out maybe $700k tops, when we would have paid $400k for sheens anyway and in 2014 we pay maybe 300k rather than 400k.

So over 2013 & 14 we pay out $1m if we sack him and $800k if we don;t. For $200k getting rid of that cancer is a massive win!

All these figures are made up but the process should be right. So if the actual salary we're paying the numpty is $1m and the replacement is $800k then worst case scenario over 2013/14 we'd pay out $2.6m without sacking him and $2m with sacking him, costing us $600k total. (these figures would have to be way above reality and it's still nowhere near the $1m in the article)

i think the time would be right to go.. i have been a staunch supporter of Tim over the years, and its not that i think he cant coach but the players are hearing him but not sinking in..

the only thing that worries me is the replacment… i for one hope the goes hard for someone like FOLKS or BELLEMEY and next DAYLIGHT

I have heard he is on over $650,000 a year .
If they do have a get out would cost them at least that much plus a wage for a new coach - and a high profile one would not come cheap.
End up costing over a million to punt him and get a proven coach….unfortunately.

Even on $650k it doesn;t cost us anywhere near $1m to punt him.

If he's on $650k then we have to pay him either $650k (worst case) or $325k (best case) to punt him as per this para:
Supposedly, as we missed the finals, we can get rid of sheens for half his contract. Not sure if that is half the total 3 years (in which case we only owe him half a year or $325k) or half of the remaining two years in which case we'd owe a full year or $650k.)

So if we don;t sack him then we have to pay sheens $650k in 2013 and $650k in 2014\. Total cost for 2013 and 2014 - $1.3m.

If we do punt him we have to pay him $650k payout. ie. $650k covers sheens for both 2013 AND 2014.

We also have to pay a new coach for both years. Say we pay stupid money again and pay the new guy $650k for 2013 and $650k for 2014\. Total cost for both years is $650k (sheens payout) + $650k (new guy 2013) + $650k (new guy 2014) = $1.95m

So total cost (most expensinve figures) for 2013 and 2014 if we DO NOT punt him is $1.3 million.
Total cost if we do punt him (assuming we pay stupid amounts for the new guy) is $1.95m

Therefore, over the 2 remaining years of sheens current contract it will cost us, at most, $1.95m - $1.3m = $650k to punt him. Way short of $1m.

And I highly doubt we'll pay a new guy $650k. The only reason for that price is that we got into a bidding war with the panthers. Geeze I wish we'd lost that.

The numbers mentioned on the weekend were $,1000,000 over the 2 years remaining, meaning worse case scenario is $500,000 to get rid of him.
This would be an investment in our future, but if the Warriors were to kick in some dough and take him that would be great, either way he has to go,10th with our roster is a massive fail.

I just read the article on fox sports, so i hope Tim Sheens leaves the club because I can't stand the fact of not playing finals football under a coach like him.

The article was very well summed up. The fact that Tim Sheens has done all he can for the club (2005 premiership, brought talent through the ranks, be able to bring names to the club and make the club what it is today). It may be worth a look for someone new, BUT only if there is someone good on the market.

Yeah, I'm all for Sheens leaving - provided the Tigers have a more than able replacement in mind, who is keen to turn things around here. If they're not actively seeking out anyone, then it's a huge risk to move Sheens on if there's no one better to take his place.

Marshall might go as well since he & Sheens have a bro-mance similar to Bennett & Boyd. Ive always been a big fan of Benjis (even when he has the occaisional brain explosion) but recently I have been thinking that all the haters might be right. He had two good games (IMO) this season, both in the rain wind & rain. The way he gifted two tries to the Storm on Saturday really tore it for me. I said rude words to the TV which is something I never do!

So I just don't care at the moment. They can both POQ. As for a new coach, I like Steve Folks followed by Steve Georgalis from the non-coaching ranks and Bellamy from the coaching ranks if available. Hassler wound not be available at the moment, I don't think. As long as we never get Brian Smith or Chris Anderson ( remember Presto)!

Craig Bellamy or nothing.

We had another bad year I agree but I'm not going to tolerate a budget coach ever again.

Who cares how much it costs, just get rid of him. We can't go through this again. When people say there are no suitable replacements at the moment, this is a load of rubbish. There's plenty out there. Don't go telling me Bellyache, what if he turns out to be another Blair failure. Make the announcement your looking for a coach, the applicants can come to you.

Fantasy land the happiest kingdom of them all, Sheens wont be going anywhere & why should he . We signed him last year & we wont be getting rid of him & maybe some of the players should aim up. There are no name coaches around unless we want to gho back to the Pearce & Lamb days.

Don't be to keen for Bellamy, hes got the players at Melbourne to play his game plan but He doesn't here. Just look at Kearney, tried to take the structured Storm game plan to Parra and look how that worked out

Our current coach has a 30% finals record in 10 seasons, can't get much closer to a budget coach then that. I'm starting to get excited cos slowly but surely the pressure is mounting and he and the board just might work out a release. All the business about there not being anyone out there to replace is rubbish cos there are several options. Guys like Taylor, Folkes and Anderson. Sometimes you can't get what you want so you just might have to settle for someone other then Bellamy. My vote goes to Daniel Anderson
