I read with interest,Corey Patterson is grasping his new career with both hands,Anthony Watts wants to fight Gallen and is trying to turn his life around.
It was interesting to see Matt Groat was going to fight Patterson but pulled out..

Why do so many NRL players want to turn to the boxing ring as a new career,in the old days it was known as a mugs game,I dare say SBW and Mundine have set the trend,I'm sure this is only a very short term career where success doesn't come easily.

I can see some would accept the challenge, however you really have to work hard and be very good at it to even consider the move..

Surely there are better avenues after NRL …..

It is the off season and a varying topic to discuss, any thoughts .....

In the old days it was known as a mugs game? :crazy

no… Boxing has always been well respected and often called the sweet science... the art of hitting and not being hit, some of the worlds greatest athletes have been boxers and many have changed the world like Jack Johnson.. Muhammad Ali....etc, to answer you question its MONEY... if an NRL player can become successful in boxing he could potentially make more money per fight then he does a season in league, but history tells us NRL players shouldn't box, anthony mundine was different, it was in his blood.. SBW is no boxer either.

Boxing is a hard and brutal sport and not many have the strict- self discipline and toughness required to make it to the top level of elite boxing. I don't think Gallen, SBW, Patterson etc. have what it takes, to reach the top of this sport. It's the ultimate physical challenge for an athlete to reach. Maybe that's why ? Either that or they love getting smashed in the head…. Alot

They only fight hand picked bums out of pubs anyway. Should try their hands at MMA and see how tough they are.

My son played league for years and turned to boxing in off season as a way to keep fit….it soon overtook his passion for footy and eventually stopped footy to keep boxing...good sport.

I wish a few posters on the forum would take up boxing….Classic matches I'd say..

As for Footy players with the no punch laws...it's a good avenue to let off steam

I think I remember you saying you were about 73 kgs Ink ??

So would you expect Knuckles to throw a couple of kgs on or would you spend some time in the sweat box ??
