NSW Cup Team Announcement: Round 13 vs. Illawarra Cutters

Tue 2nd June, 04:50PM

Wests Tigers NSW Cup Coach Paul Fletcher has named his Round 13 side to take on the Illawarra Cutters on Saturday, June 6 at Workers Arena, Goulburn.

Kickoff for the match is scheduled for 3:00pm AEST as Fletcher's side look to bounce back from two close defeats to the Wyong Roos and North Sydney Bears.

Holden Cup players Mason Cerruto and Marion Seve have both again been named to start this week's match, while Tyler Cassel is set for his NSW Cup debut after being named on a five-man interchange bench for Saturday's important clash against the Cutters.

Joel Luani has once again been named captain of the side, while young forward Matthew Lodge has been named alongside Jack Buchanan in the front-row.

Seems strange that Cherrington, Lodge and Buch are named on the bench but also NSW Cup

What on earth has Lodge done to be dropped back?

Im so filthy at this club atm

Not only Lodge, why isn't Salesi in there? poor bloke has been playing out of position all year and hasn't had a chance in the back row which is his preferred position.

Wow this club is crap

Agree about Lodge, the kid has actually been our most impressive bench player consistently this year.

Hmmm I dunno. It can't hurt giving the kid some time in reggies to get some bigger minutes against lesser opposition. Give him that dominant feeling back. Psychological refreshment. Up in NRL he is one of the pack and a 20 year old can be blunted by that when they're used to being the gun of the side.

Might as well put Brooks and Moses back while youre at it. Its been a long time since they have felt that dominant feeling.

Long time between now and Saturday….the named team has changed every week to the one that runs out.....

Giving Lodge bigger minutes in Reggies is a good thing, and Cherrington will probably be in NRL so that bench will all play.

Does the club have Funaki signed up for a few more years? He is a super talent at 20!

I don't watch a great deal of NSW Cup but happened to stumble onto their game after work Sunday Night on Fox

Funaki seemed a bit lazy , has potential yes

Well I think we can afford to cover Lodge a bit more effectively than those two don't you?

Of course but that is not the point you were making.

But im all for changes on the run, hopefully we do it come game time and Lodge plays

That's exactly the point that a lot of us on here have been trying to highlight for a while now,
Moses has had half a season where his attack , in most games has been zilch( for whatever reason), It would him good to get a few games where he can actually run the ball and Be able to stop just being a speed bump.
As it is now he's wasting his time being in first grade.
I don't know if he will be a sucess in first grade on what we've seen ( and neither can anyone else , if they're honest and go on what he's shown this year), but if JT is just going to keep allowing him to be belted we may never know.
Give the kid a chance to play some football in the Reggies and let him play some football.
Before its bashed out of him.
And before someone gives the stock answer" who do you replace him with"

I don't give a bugger who does, but seriously, does it matter, there would have to be someone in the club who could handle 5/8 for a while, and we are no chance of making the semis this year( unless JT decides to let us at least try to score some points against teams other than the last placed teams)
I just think he's been handled badly at the moment , and his long term welfare is more important than the fact that some ( the Club, or JT) seem determined to not admit that he's not at the stage of his career that they thought he was,
At the moment with JTs theories , his confidence is would probably falling.

I totally agree.

This should have happened weeks ago, its almost too late now.

Creates 2 bad situations, 1 is that it creates an apathy in the club, a thought that it doesnt matter how i play i wont get dropped, or for those out of the team i wont get promoted. 2 is Mitchel Moses or whoever it is doesnt deserve that tough of an initiation into first grade, a top team protect the young players they have high opinions of.

But in saying all that Moses has played better the last couple of games and is getting there.

I reckon Lodge is dropped back so they can get him to play some big minutes, he is a front rower eligible for NYC, playing NRL, looking after him is probably sensible.

As for dropping Moses and Brooks back, they are trying to teach them to play controlled footy (too much IMO, but that is a whole other argument), going back to NSW cup and having them get away with less than desirable options is not what they want. Teach them some bad habits.

dont know whos picking the NSW side, but i have been to most games and how the hell LIOLEVAVE gets picked ahead of FUNAKI for the second row is a joke.
