Parramatta Stadium Upgrade

Announcement today that Parramatta Stadium will receive $30 million in Federal Government funding for upgrades. Corporate facilities will be improved and capacity will be increased from 20,000 to 25,000.

To me this is an absolute **waste** of money.

I know I'm biased, but Campbelltown Stadium seems a much more logical and strategic option for funding. The South-west is a growth area, it's on the train line, leagues club on site, and the closest stadium is 40km away (Parramatta Stadium).

A few weeks ago Penrith Panthers announced a huge new Centre of Excellence at the club, including new facilities for the University of Western Sydney's Sport Science faculty. Something like that in Campbelltown - ie Uni facilities and a training facility for the Tigers/Western Sydney Wanderers would go down a treat.

Your thoughts?

30 million dollars and they're only increasing the capacity by 5 thousand? what a waste. If they're going to go to all that trouble increase to 40 thousand at least.

They're probably only increasing capacity by 5,000 but putting in 10,000 new seats as the Wanderers fans probably ruined 5,000 of them

Parramatta is a booming hub. It's CBD is expanding rapidly. The Aspire tower will be the tallest in Australia on completion (336m… taller than sydney's tallest 240m), the Parra Square development will see two new 200m+ towers built, Meriton has just started building two new biggies as well.

This is all part and parcel of an area that is growing rapidly as businesses invest in the area. Companies are moving offices there to take advantage of its location, existing infrastructure among other things.

Good point about the CBD. Forgot about that.

This post sums it up nicely. I'd like to see Campbelltown Stadium expanded and improved, but realistically, Parramatta Stadium was always going to take precedence IMO.

Parramatta Stadium is the permanent home ground for an NRL side and an A-League side and it's located in the second biggest CBD in Sydney. I really don't see how Campbelltown can be seen on an equal footing by comparison.

For what they say they are doing for what they are spending, seems like a massive waste of money anyway. Upgrade or no upgrade, Cambo long-term should still remain healthy.

I'd love to see Campbelltown Stadium look something like Hunter Stadium.

There's no reason why they couldn't beef it up, sell the naming rights to a big company and it would be financially viable for us to play 12 games there. At the moment whilst it's run by the council (correct me if I'm wrong) it's too difficult.

Kul, I echo Willow's sentiments, your comments summed it up nicely.

How much did Campbelltown spend for the extra seats? Was it $8m?

They're also improving corporate facilities, players change rooms, public bathrooms and food & drink outlets.

And I believe the ground has the foundations to be a 40,000 seat stadium but the area surrounding the ground is classed as not suitable for a 40,000 seat stadium. I take it that means parking, traffic, etc.

This just came out today. SOOOO much happening in Parra at the moment! Exciting times!

Try living and driving around the area….exciting- not.

For the proximity Parra stadium is to Olympic park, just down the road....which itself will be revamped to the tune of $250m.....it is a waste of money

Parramatta city council website

You'll find that it's just indicative, all except for Aspire (the big 336m tower… that's set in stone)
The good news is that its indicative because all the developers are applying for TALLER towers. Parra will look like a sweet CBD in a few years time.

This image below is just of Aspire. I can't wait to see this baby go up! Council expects tenders to be issued this year so hopefully construction will start early next year.

You would think having Albanese and OFarrell in our corner Leichardt would stand some chance of an upgrade

obviously not ….....

….That would be like Holden and Ford getting together to re-do the Ford Falcon... Not much in it for Holden.....

If they were to increase it to 30k would it be beneficial for the club to move our marquee home games to Parra from the SFS? Just a thought, obviously the money will talk.
