Weststigers are asking for payment for Marshall to return to the NRL .. as I have stated previously he has a clause in his release that he can not play in the NRL until the original contractual obligation is finished .. I say good on the club all the garbage in the media from Marshall and his mates about OUR club was a disgrace .. If the Sharks want him PAY THE PRICE

Agreed. No different to other cases recently in the NRL. Wherever he goes, WT should get some
Compensation- be nice to receive some rather than us funding other clubs

And there is no need for us to be lenient here. This is contractual. There's no sick fathers or compassionate reasons in sight. It's not about us blocking his attempts to be meaningful again, its about his legal obligation to abide by the release he agreed to.

We could get half a million if we play our cards right.

Maybe my mind is playing tricks but I could swear I heard Mayer say there was no such clause in place a while ago before the release was granted?

Who would pay us this compensation? Benji? The club who signs him? Would make it harder for another club to sign him in the latter case.

Maybe we should sign him for something minimal & allow him to make his fortune playing Japanese rugby in the off-season.

No guarantee he'd play in firsts tho.

We got rid of an expensive out of form half without him hanging around taking up cap space for the remainder of his contract. On last seasons form, no other club would have taken Benji for what we were paying, so we would have been subsidising his contract elsewhere. I think the Tigers are already well out of it having released him.

If the Tigers think they can squeeze additional money out of an option they may still have on Benji, then that's potentially awesome, but I would be concerned it could come back and bite them if the NRL then rules Marshall's contract still valid. We could be stuck with overs on our cap while he plays elsewhere, or worse forced to take him back.

I'm just going to assume for the moment that the Tigers board knows what they're doing. It would be nice if we could say force the Storm to pay out Tim Sheens in exchange for Benji. That would solve two problems.

It doesn't matter who pays if it is apart of his release…

Obviously we have a clause to some effect and have placed a dollar value on it.

Obviously Marshall would stipulate to whoever offers him a contract they should pay it...

Can't happen. Benji was released and the contract was no more. The NRL signed off on that.

Whats currently happening is whether Benji signed off on a clause that stopped him from playing for another NRL club within a certain time period, much like SBW had with Bulldogs when he left.
