Phil Gould's Comments re Poker Machines

You all may recall Gus' statement regarding the ineffectiveness of the Governments proposed pokies precommitment legislation. Gus, and many others, don't like the idea. He made his thoughts known just before the second half of the Brisbane game on the 23rd of last month. At the time I thought Gus is shooting his mouth off again about things he should not comment on. After all, he is supposed to be a football commentator and that is all. Once before, on the Sunday Roast, he paid out on the Gillard Government saying they should not be in government because, as far as he was concerned, they did not have a mandate.
Right or wrong, I think he should stick to the footy.
Now it turns out it may have been a paid announcement and not just Phil's off the cuff remarks. Apparently Ray Warren got on the radio and said that the comments came from "up top" at TCN. If this is true Channel Nine may find themselves in deep doo-doo. The ACMA are conducting an investigation into the matter. See http://www.acma.gov.au/WEB/STANDARD/pc=PC_410179 for details.
Whether you agree or not is beside the point. TV stations MUST abide by the code of ethics. :blah

Does anyone else remember an article a couple of years ago in a Sunday paper about (and by) Ray Warren confessing that Gambling had almost ruined his life? According to the article he had lost thousands and was attempting to give it up. Sounds as if he was giving in to pressure from above. Don't know about Gus though, does anyone else?

I know at least one bookie who is very unhappy that Rabs gave away the punt.

From what I can gather, the commentators were asked to say the proposed legislation was a bad idea. Warren, to his credit, kept quiet leaving it to Gould to flap his gums. I did not hear what RW said on the radio but he did spill the beans. It may have been a conscience issue.

didnt some radio guy get in trouble years ago for something similar. something called cash for comments?

Do you mean Gus on the punt Bluebag ??
I know he is a keen punter from reading his autobiography but it didn't sound like it was a problem for him

Nah Happy, Bluebag is right. It most definitely was Rabs and he was having a whinge that he had nothing to show for his years of commentating although he still has his home at Baulkham Hills.

He was a prolific punter.

CB Bluebag asked "Don't know about Gus though, does anyone else " I just answered what I had read in his autobiography about his punting .
