Players lying down

Players are lying down in tackles to get a penalty. I used to think this is not in the spirit of the game but now I think it's just part of the modern game. In another words it doesn't matter how you win anymore as long as you win. Bit sad but that's the way it is I think. Crickets gone the same way after the Broad incident.

I have mixed feelings on it. I hate seeing a player stay down to milk a penalty. On the other hand the amount of high shots the refs miss is getting beyond a joke. If I was a coach I would tell the players to stay down if hit high, the penalty you get may win you the game.

To me the problem is that so many of today's referees are inept. They really need to fix the referees.

Once upon a time you didnt stay down unless you couldnt get up….there was pride and toughness in the game.

Now thanks to technology thats all changed

Don't blame technology Ink. Blame poor spirit of today's game. The tough Gen Yer's don't have the same attitude I'm afraid. Tough is tough to me.

The Inglis one was bullshit acting, the tackle wasn't high at all, meanwhile Horo gets hit in a high grapple tackle that goes unpenalised.

In the Dragons Sharks game Lewis stayed down faking injury in a tackle that would normally be penalised for holding the leg, this enabled him to avoid the penalty…....he was up and running almost instantly showing no signs of ailment or injury...

But generally it is not the players fault, more so the video referee and on field referee. And if a player has been legitimately hit high and a penalty unawarded then of course they should stay down.

Two solutions
1\. Tell the refs to put a tackle on report if it warrants a suspension. Make them accountable for putting love taps on report. Maybe they won't decide to put everything on report and will be inclined to get on with the game.
2\. If a player can't get up to play the ball, make them have to leave the field for 5 minutes, irrelevant of whether it goes on report or not. If they are put on report they get the free interchange (to get them off and on) and if it is not the team can make the substitution (to get someone on) or play a man down for 5 minutes.

Maybe it's because the game is worth billions of dollars, players and coaches get paid bucket loads and the pressure is on them to win at all cost.

Don't talk bad about gen y or they will stab u

 just kidding

Easiest way in my opinion is this

The player reports his injury to the trainer who says to the ref for example high shot

So we still play the old rule , the player gives the ball to another player to continue play

While this occurs the video ref can have time to see if it was a high shot or not

If we get to the end of the set and the attacking team hasn't scored and the play warrants a penalty ,we come back and the attacking team get the penalty

If the player is BSing and their is no contact to the head he automatically gets a contrary conduct charged laid and misses the next game without any appeal process

Will fix the fakers I reckon

I'm sharpening mine as we speak :smiling_imp:

In all seriousness though, I think you're somewhat right. The attitude toward the game has changed as it has grown more professional. There's more emphasis on the result and doing whatever is possible to achieve the win and we're seeing coaches and players using tactics like this to gain any advantage they can.

I hate the tactic personally and would encourage any move to wipe it out of the game.

I think it is a disgusting tactic and everytime I see it am losing respect for the players. I used to give it to the soccer fraternity for this crap and now my sport is every bit as bad. I was very dissapointed to see GI carry on on Friday night. I am a huge fan and felt let down to be honest.

How do we know he wasn't legitimately injured? He could have been hurt momentarily.
