Aristotle asserted long ago in his Politics: “Man is by nature a social animal … Anyone who either cannot lead the common life or is so self-sufficient as not to need to, and therefore does not partake of society, is either a beast or a god.”

Since my leave from the forum for the past few days, i want to thank all those who sent me the good wishes and to those of whom made some such comments, i just want to say that sometimes with the high speed of things on the forum, some stories will always be misunderstood and sometimes taken out of context and to those people commenting who said "take care of yourself" and also said "this is the pressures of social media" let me say to you are absolutely correct, and this is the reason for my early return from what was supposed to be a long break.

We can not control how we feel but we can control how we react to our feelings, and so by taking a little break from this forum i was able to control and get my feelings back in to order.

We shoudn't just say that Social media could be, but should say, it will always be a precarious place to be in, especially for the younger people who are immature to know how to control their bad feelings, and this includes NRL players some of whom have had their careers and reputations severely damaged because of it.

So i'd like to also add this that i think is important for consideration and awareness about social behaviour.

How people react and feel for example when in a debate/discussion on a forum, differs from person to person, and sometimes among various factors , the one thing that has an effect on a persons social behaviour would be, is the role of the chemical dopamine that is made in our brains, Dopamine, Is a contributing factor in mood, and even our decision making.

and this i think is something we should all be aware of especially if the person is considered as an "introvert"

introverts are less impulsive than extroverts, Extroverts also have more dopamine activation when they connect with other humans, introverts don't require as much social interaction in order to feel good as extroverts do, That can be a good thing, but it can also make introverts more prone, they can become overstimulated, which leads to exhaustion, and to recover, they need to spend time by themselves, this is the reason why they usually don’t want to spend hours socializing with large groups of people.

So i thought sharing this little knowledge and awareness about some facts of social behaviour could be beneficial for all of us to know a little about people and what can effect their behaviour, which can be learnt from the science of human personality and psychology.

Besides this i then asked myself this question, does any NRL club employ a sports psycologist?
The first one i looked at, was the Melb. Storm, they do not have one listed on ther website under their list of staff.

Then i looked at the Syd. Roosters, and they sure have one, here's what Mr Robinson says about his teams Psychologist .
Psychology and Lifestyle
"Grant Brecht is a clinical psychologist and full-time consultant. Coach Robinson believes you need to get their life right before you can get their footy right. Mr Brecht makes sure that any issues within their private lives are okay as well as supporting them with sports psychology."

Guy's, the reason why we see things from our players during the games, things like mental weakness, childish errors, stupid dumb penalties, the inability to anticipate, etc, etc,
Is because amongst all the other things, the WT also needs a sports psychologists.

And correct me if i'm wrong but the nutritionist that the WT employ would be similar to me telling my kids eat this, and don't eat that, but you know that they won't listen.

All professional players should have learnt by now what to eat and not eat (did someone say kfc?) their young hungry brains needs to also be fed properly by a sports psychologists (a coach is not a psychologists) who will help them to begin to look like an intelligent, composed team and stop them from looking like a team with an un-taught, immature mind.

We have the CoE (almost)
We have the Coach
We have the players
We need players to start to act like men
We, the WT need a Sports Psychologists.

Great post mate!
Do you have experience in the field?

Initially there were players that used the coach whisperer ‘Bradley Stubbs’ a self taught motivation man. Tedesco when he started at the roosters was one but he was employed through his manager.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/believe-it-or-not-coach-whisperer-bradley-charles-stubbs-shares-his-secrets-20191207-p53hte.html

Madge was the first coach to have a relationship with him.

Interesting read above.

The club definitely has welfare officers .....whether we have people who specialize in sports psychology and or mental health .....

I would imagine the welfare officers direct the players to the right people ...

It's a big part of the game now sports psychology and something that interests me a lot... I would've thought all professional sports employed these guys

Charmain Steventon — Head of People and Culture

Joe Galuvao — Education and Wellbeing Officer

Chris Lawrence — NRL Career Coach

Some very respected people in those roles.

He is not on the list, but only people on Wests Tigers pay roll show up on this list. People employed through other funding do not show up even though they may be at the club fulltime.

I remember an interview where he was an welfare officer ...maybe an NRL position ...sort of sounded like he was a WT's employee

Lot of effort went into that post mate.
Great read, very insightful.

Appreciate it.

A clinical Sports Psychologist would certainly be an asset to the players during the season to assist them with the pressures and expectations of being a professional athlete however I wonder how little emphasis in this area is put into recruiting players. Watching the documentary and recent events unfold I feel as a playing group we are mentally weak. Perhaps we are more interested in ticking boxes such as value, experience, ability, potential, or youth when recruiting and overlooking the player's mental toughness and ability to work as part of a team.
To get us out of this mess we need people who are mentally strong and willing to turn our culture around. Anyone not ticking this box is only going to add to the problem and hold us back

No Mate, no experience at all in this field,
But what i can also add is this, when you think of people like your sister-in-law or your mother-in-law, **your wife is the LAW**, so it will be very helpful for us all to try to learn from the science of human personalites. 😊😀

Just recently, One of our most respected WT legends Brett Hodgson said, he has seen and strongly believes that there are great benefits of having a Sports Psychologist (2-3 minute reading) https://www.loverugbyleague.com/post/brett-hodgson-praises-sports-psychologist-after-hull-fcs-strong-showing-in-2021/

As long as we don't get to the point where we refuse to say the oppositions name, that was hocus pocus.

From memory, LA Lakers employed sports psychologist,
at the time their head coaches were P Riley and P Jackson

Yep been saying for years that we need a good sports psychologist. Since mental weakness has been our Achilles heel for over a decade I honestly don’t know why we haven’t employed one a lot sooner.

Would’ve liked Roy Masters to come into the club in some capacity over the years, the belief and mental strength he instilled into the minds of the Wests players all those years ago was remarkable.
