Playing with heart

The club needs to stop playing the "up game" with the players & start being hard on them. If they don't like it, off you go to another team.

We did for the first month. Up until the first Dolphins game, we showed a ton. The Dragons game at Ctown is when it all turned to water. We’ve showed almost no sign of life since. Yet, most weeks, the coach praises our effort.

Should have been looking at a coach that had a resume that included something in the last 15 years when recruiting over the last couple of years

It's sad as I really think Benji has the right idea, but having never coached he simply doesn't command the respect in this area that someone who has done the hard yards does.

I'd be bringing Brad Arthur in straight away.

Arthur, Morris and JD staff.

Too many players that dominated with size as kids.

Now they are up against men they don’t have the work effort, energy and heart to compete.

And a few others in the squad like Olam, Klemmer and Bateman who were once very good players but now look way past their best …all signed up on big dollars another two years after this one …yikes

Can we now please stop saying we are playing with heart this year. This team and club is just as heartless as they have been in previous years.

I'm baffled how so many are happy with our effort. It's shit as usual
If the team played with heart they'd be putting in an 80min performance. We struggle to put a solid 20mins together. I'd rather Marshall talk the way he did in this week's press conference.

Funny this gets overlooked.

Everyone says we 'compete for 20 minutes'. Or we 'play well too late in the game when it doesn't matter'.

What changes around that 20 minute mark most weeks?

Could that coincide with when the likes of Klemmer, Utoikamanu etc leave the field & the likes of Pole, Sione Fainu etc come on?

Same for the last 20 minutes or so- when invariably Klemmer & Utoikamanu come back on the field?

I don't think it's a lack of heart. I think they are all trying. But dumb errors, compounding with poor defensive reads & penalties & discipline...which generally kick in later in that half of football, or the beginning of the second half...

Could it just simply be- we are too young & dumb & not professional enough at this stage of their careers?

Not enough squad depth to combat those half games where the starters come off?
