Playing with heart

If the team played with heart they'd be putting in an 80min performance. We struggle to put a solid 20mins together. I'd rather Marshall talk the way he did in this week's press conference.
Not enough big boppers in the squad, or our big bopper MIA. Just can't sustain the effort for 80 min. against bigger packs. They try, effort is there, just becomes too much.
We need to recruit more kg's to be able to match the relentless barrage. I mean guys 110kg plus.
Nothing in lower grades fits that description, other than Jordan Miller who is 1-2 seasons away, still learning if he wants the job?

Funny this gets overlooked.

Everyone says we 'compete for 20 minutes'. Or we 'play well too late in the game when it doesn't matter'.

What changes around that 20 minute mark most weeks?

Could that coincide with when the likes of Klemmer, Utoikamanu etc leave the field & the likes of Pole, Sione Fainu etc come on?

Same for the last 20 minutes or so- when invariably Klemmer & Utoikamanu come back on the field?

I don't think it's a lack of heart. I think they are all trying. But dumb errors, compounding with poor defensive reads & penalties & discipline...which generally kick in later in that half of football, or the beginning of the second half...

Could it just simply be- we are too young & dumb & not professional enough at this stage of their careers?

Not enough squad depth to combat those half games where the starters come off?
Exactly, our bench is lightweight, no impact players to dent the line.
No big boppers on the bench to maintain the go ahead. Lightweight defenders trying to hold the fort.

Yeah that was a real determined win.

We could have easily lied down and lost by 20+. Reminded me of the Parra game earlier in the year when the eels started to get on top, lost Galvin for 10 and still dug in deep to win.

Team needed LO and 40 Titans errors to just scrape through. Still a lot of work to be done. Still just digging at the try-line from dummy half 80% of the time. Some positive signs bringing kids through,

Let’s see where the heart is when the team does it’s usual thing next week and play as if they have been forced to visit their annoying mother in law who lives Campbelltown.

Read the room? This is a forum mate. If you want profundity you shouldn’t be posting on a rugby league forum.

If you read the subtext of my post I was actually using a metaphor to describe the disparity between performances and atmosphere at home grounds. Which is a serious problem for the club and is very demoralizing considering the possibilities of what Campbelltown is like when it’s not outright embarrassingly neglected by the club.

I also said that there were encouraging signs wrt to young players coming through.

Of course we have a long way to go.
It's one win.
Yeah the GC were poor
Who cares for that now

I watched a great win and just finished another replay...
I enjoyed my team for once
I enjoyed seeing all the players and coaching staff enjoying the win
I enjoyed we were able to give a legend a send odd he deserved
I enjoy want to watch replays of the gsme
I enjoy being able to discuss it at nearly 2am
I will enjoy the media dissecting our win and the game I love... Because when we lose I lose that.
Enjoy the win... A. Week is a short time... Imaging TWO in a row!

Sezar returning was the difference.

In an interview. I heard him say...
"I love playing here...." then corrected himself and say, "I mean, WE love playing here."

Guys a class act.
4 game suspension was a joke.
He's the type of guy we need mentoring our youth and showing them the way, as a player and I wouldn't be opposed to say, as a person too.
