Refereeing

cannot believe how bad it has been this year…..

watching the dogs v titans now its over 20 penalties...

somethings goto give... (and not a ref giving a penalty)

If the player with the ball is making no more momentum then the ref counts to 3 and then the tackle is complete and the ball is played after another 2 seconds. No more need for wrestling or holding down. Would need some fine tuning but that is the nucleus of the fix that would make things consistent and ensure the game is played by men on their feet rather than a stacks on pile on the ground. That would streamline the ruck and remove subjectivity and would increase the entertainment - theoretically.

But then is all the other things which are black and white which have been officiated in a subjective manner with no internal consistency, benefiting one team over another at any decision to the next.

In the Dogs Titans game the Titans got multiple penalties attacking the try line to the Dogs being offside, when the situation is reverse in the second half the Dogs did not recieve any penalty for the same infringement. This particular game can't help but suggest the refs want the Titans to win to ensure a Queensland side in the finals series. Fox had a graphic that showed the Titans taking the Raiders spot inside the 8 if the result were to stand. :deadhorse:

cant help but think they have to get the word to penalise the opposing team (so one can make the 8) at the end of every season. horrible stuff.

Dogs deserved to be penalised out of the game, constant niggle and milking rubbish, crap in the ptb…theyre a very ill disciplined team

They got rattled early...Ennis & Reynolds tried hthe usual tricks, falloon, bird & myles trumped em

The trouble I had with the refereeing is they missed the little thing. Missing the line drop out was a big one in my book.

Fact is, there was 23 penalties in the game - Surprised we didn't see more shots at goal to really stick it to Union.

Honestly, the referees should have taken control of the game and sin binned people. Nate Myles for one who conceded penalties for the same thing - slowing down the ruck. If people were sent for 10 minutes, the penalty count couldn't have been as high as it was.

Ennis said "I feel like you blokes are ruining the contest when we're trying to complete" to the refs and Bird looked to agree. At a penalty count of 16 in the first half alone, that's kinda understandable. Only time I've agreed with Ennis the Pennis in all honesty

Look the refs can only call what they see and if teams decide to flaunt with the rules they get penalized

Something the Tigers have to learn in the future once our forward pack learns to compete better in defence

Sure the referee can only call on what they see, I guess they see everything…even things right in front of them.

However, even if the teams were continually pushing things and willing to get penalised, the referees had to step in and take control. 23 penalties is way too much. They have the sin bin to use and it should have been used last night.
