Rested Robbie ready to rumble
June 17, 2012

The star of Origin II is focused on a Roosters side he believes is underrated, writes Daniel Lane.

Wests Tigers skipper Robbie Farah, still sporting the scars from his five-star performance for NSW in Wednesday's State of Origin victory, believes the onus is on him to produce another wholehearted effort in today's match against the Sydney Roosters at Leichhardt Oval.

Farah was presented the match ball by his NSW teammates after he tackled himself to a standstill with 63 tackles and touched the ball 101 times on Wednesday night. While Tigers coach Tim Sheens said Farah would most likely not play the entire match this afternoon, the classy hooker has readied himself with a recovery program centring on rehydration, replenishment, rubdowns and rest, and said he was ready to rumble.

"I haven't done too much since the game, just ice baths and massage," he said. "[Backing up] is something I tried to do [after Origin I] and it is something I'll try to do again. Obviously it helped having the game here; it's not hard to get up for a Sunday afternoon game at Leichhardt. The boys have been playing well so hopefully they can drag me along and help improve my performances."

The only obvious sign of his Origin battle was a gash to his ear. Farah was confident it would not cause him any great problem. "They couldn't stitch the ear so they glued it together. [It's] just a rip at the top of the ear but it's all good. I'll just get the head strapped up again, so I'll be right."

Farah has tried not to dwell too much on Origin to focus instead on a Roosters team he believes is a better outfit than the ladder suggests.

"They have a really big, strong physical pack of forwards that go forward and on the back of that they have a good kicking game."

Farah and Sheens acknowledged their team would oppose a desperate squad as the Roosters are on a four-game losing streak. Sheens dismissed the notion the Roosters were primarily a young team finding its feet.

"There's quite a bit of experience in that side when you go through it – [there's] a lot of rep players in that side as well, their halves in particular and their fullback," Sheens said. "They have a lot of direction from their spine. They're a big side and a strong side and we're going to have to work very hard to win this game."

Roosters prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves said that while the Roosters were determined to stop the Tigers' match-winning run at seven victories, he was also enjoying nurturing the club's new generation of top-grade players. "I just tell them what Jason Ryles told me, and that's to do the basic things right," he said. "Do them well and all the other stuff such as the offloading and line breaks and tackle breaks follow."
