Return of Tim Simona

I expect a much better performance against Souths, not just because it's hard to perform worse than against Canberra, but because of the return of Tim Simona.

Since 2014 we are 18/39 (46.15%) when Simona plays and 2/17 (11.76%) when he is missing. This is the best win rate for any player and second worst loss rate for that player missing (Woods is the highest with 1 win from 9 games missed) during this period.

I am not sure if we really miss Simona badly, or just because his replacements have been Milone (0 wins from 6 starts = 0.00%), Delouise Hoeter (1 win from 7 starts = 14.29%) and Lovett (8 wins from 29 starts = 27.59%).

The winningest players for 2014-2016 (overall team win rate 20/56 = 35.71%):
Simona 18/39 = 46.15%
Nofoaluma 14/32 = 43.75%
Woods 19/47 = 40.43%
Farah 16/40 = 40.00%
Richards 17/43 = 39.53%

Losingest players (played 5 or more games):
Milone 0/6 = 0.00%
Hoeter 1/7 = 14.29%
Halatau 9/36 = 25.00%
Grant 2/8 = 25.00%
Aloiai 2/8 = 25.00%

Worst record without (missed 5 or more):
Woods 1/9 = 11.11%
Simona 2/17 = 11.76%
Brooks 1/5 = 20.00%
Richards 1/5 = 20.00% (edit)
Farah 4/16 = 25.00% and Nofo 6/24 = 25.00%

Anyone guess the player with more than 5 games missed, without whom we have the best win record? Not who you might expect…

I'm intrigued

Simons definitely adds another option in attack - he can beat a defender and set up his winger, Milone sadly isn't worrying the defenders too much

You nailed it when you said who his replacements are.

Milone, Hoeter and Lovett.

Were about 12-18 points worse off with any of those starting in the centres as a rough guess.

I'll go… Lawrence to the answer of the mystery question...

Simona will be a welcome inclusion...

Just hope his tackling technique has improved lol…but it has been such a shame he being on the sideline for 3 wks without being injured. He's missed way too many games through Injury in his short career to date.

It creates a massive weakness on that side when Simona is gone. Rankin is better than Richards on that side though so the stats are a little more extreme than what they should be.

It's Mitchell Moses.

Since start 2014 Moses has been absent from 14 games and we won 8 of those = 57.14%.

Next closest is Halatau (missed 20 won 11 = 55.00%), then Lawrence (missed 9 won 4 = 44.44%), Hoeter (missed 17 won 7 = 41.18%), Buchanan and Santi equal (missed 37 won 15 = 40.54%).

I included every match if that player played that season, so for example Buchanan counts as missing 5 this year because he played 3, 2016 games are not counted for Hoeter etc.

Simona will be a welcome addition to the team this week. It won't be enough to get us a win though.
