Can anyone shed some light on some of these guys without framing it in a Magpies vs BRET post or making a complaint about how unfair things are?
I'm not familiar with most (well all) these names. Are they mostly youngsters?

Never heard of any of the players bar Aaron Sweeney

Does highlight the difference though -starkly- when every player for BRET is recognisable

Daniel La Manna is a big prop from St George's SG Ball last year (or year before).
Chris Nay was also a Dragon from memory.
Given that the coach was at St George last year there may be one or two more from out Kogarah way ????

As for the rest - nothing springs instantly to mind.
But I wish them well and hope they wear the black & white with pride.
Go get em Maggies

Jay Maseuli was with the Tigers NYC last year. Came off the bench in some games but was not a regular starter.

I guess the 5 players coming across from Balmain didn't eventuate.

Good luck to the Pies. Will try and make it out for this special occasion.

I would imagine that will happen on the same timetable as last year when Davidson, Achurch etc were sent across

BIG DAY PLANNED FOR 'RETURN TO LIDCOMBE'
29/02/2012 10:16:00 AM

Western Suburbs Magpies have planned a big range of acitviities for the 'Return to Lidcombe Oval' day on Saturday, March 3.

It is the first time in 25 years a senior Western Suburbs team will take to the hallowed turf of Lidcombe Oval since the Magpies flew west to Leumeah in 1987.

A ground that oozes with nostalgia and holds many memories for players and fans alike, Lidcombe Oval was home to many an infamous Fibros Vs. Silvertails Battle, between the Magpies arch rivals in Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles.

It's fitting that Western Suburbs 'Return to Lidcombe' happens to be against their old sparring partners from yesteryear.

2GB's Ray Hadley and the Continuous Call team are on board and will be broadcasting from Lidcombe Oval from midday onwards, in what is Ray Hadley's 30th Anniversary on radio with his first ever Rugby League broadcast call from Lidcombe Oval back in 1982.

There will be former Magpie and Manly greats on hand from various eras not to mention the NSWRL Junior Representative Western Suburbs Magpies Harold Matthews and SG Ball teams playing prior to the VB NSW Cup Game.

A Limited Edition 'Return To Lidcombe' T-Shirts will be on sale at the ground for $25.

Who cares whether Tommy is there. I cannot undertand why when everyone thinks of the Magpies, Tommy comes into their mind? Sure he was great for us but he left when we needed him the most. I hate it in interviews when he talks about passion and loyalty. It really sh**s me.

I would prefer to see Trevor Cogger personally….

Calm down it was a simple question.

Players need to earn a buck too…Ive no ill feeling towards any that left, though we lost a huge chunk all in one go to Manly & newtown, half the team bang gone in one summer.

Took my son there about 6 years ago....some soccer was on, it was fairly run down, hadnt been maintained well....4 foot high weeds, broken fences....and a putrid red n white colour theme

I'll be attending on Saturday but I look through that team and don't recognise many, if any, names

A sad state of affairs that with such a hyped-up event that a cricket score could be on the cards.

What happened to the likes of Rocky T and some of those other semi familiar names from last year?

Alf there are so many players from the last two years who were good players who are no longer there. Obviously they went to sides that promised payment as Wests perhaps were left in the lurch by the Leagues club and their immediate future was uncertain for players to be re-signed. Im only guessing.

The whole situation is a disgrace when you look at the BRET team compared to Wests.

But we need to give Daniel Watson Hayes a massive wrap for what he has done. If we had our fair share of WT players, we would be the leading side in the State Cup with every week being something very special thanks to Daniels passion and sports management skills.

The score line will be hard to swallow on Saturday, thanks to Fonz and the FIB.

Game just got a good free plug on nrl on fox..

Never knew warren smith was a magpies man!
