LIVE GAME Round 27 vs. Eels

Live Game Discussion
The tiger's saved their shittest game of the year for tonight, unbelievable too many dropped ball, tiger's score a try then from kick off 1st or 2nd tackle just handing it to parra, such a effortless game for parra, all parra did was just watch the tiger's hand the ball back, disgraceful pass from dummy half from Papalii, unbelievable

Yeah he has been done for a while now but they make him play maximum minutes per game, ignoring the huge defensive load he takes on.
TDS should get 40+ minutes each week next year.
If TDS wasn't good or ready I wouldn't bemoan Api like I do, but the fact is he's a much better option. We should also be looking at helping api produce positive things for the team. Goal-kicking, playing like a halfback and being captain is too much of a load for a 30+ year old in a team of rookies

Benji is still going to be coach next year. Galvin will want to be the main man + more money. We don't have that for him. Put 2 and 2 together and boom. Roosters have the money and Walker could leave roosters, leaving galvin in the lucky position of playing for a decent team on bigger money
I think he will love playing with Luai.

Luai has the biggest and brightest personality in the entire game.

He will win over Galvin. He’s extraordinary.

He’s our last bankable hope.

The only thing we’ve got absolutely right since time immemorial.

I hate to say it , but Galvin will jump ship as soon as he can , and I don’t think money will be what he’s after , he wants to win , and he ant getting with this club

He’s not a superstar. How has he earned that moniker?
Galvin may be the better player, but Fainu is the better half.
I agree. Galvin is a superstar though. All the greats are saying it. it's not just some hysteria from tik tok fans

Get rid of Staines, feledy and the rest. Not up to reserve grade let alone nrl.

What was with the defensive line being passive as usual..run up then slide..not that hard.
Hahahaha said this end of last year. Stains is useless, feledy nowhere near nrl standards

Was a real buzz around the ground early, good support from both sides and with Galvin with beautiful touches for the first two tries it looked like our early jitters were turning around. Then the rest of the game happened.

I think Richo was talking before the game about Penrith winning big in final round of 03 before going on to win gf the next year and drawing parallels between them and us. It's a classic example of winning the game before we played it and then producing a dud performance when we actually play that is so typical of leaders in our club. Somehow we win a game or two and we're planning for grand finals without focusing on the thing in front of us.

In a way, as this is who we are, it's better we show our colours rather than play in a way that allows the club to feel like what has been happening is good enough. It's clearly not. Who there is good enough to change it?

It was sad watching Api out there. Benji ran him into the ground this year. Everyone here saw he was being overused and it didn't help us win squat.

On the other hand I enjoyed seeing the young players given a go and they mostly held up well. Mason has plenty of errors in him but also a lot of talent.

It was a particularly disappointing season from our experienced forward pack. They were awful this year.

There's been no improvement to our ability to control the speed of the ruck and create it ourselves. It doesn't matter who we buy, this is step one.

A lot of talk about effort and not giving up from Benji. I hope next year that applies to things like chasing the kick and trying to tackle and wrapping the ball up.

As disappointing as our forwards were, you could argue our backs are worse. Not able to gain metres on early tackles, get themselves mixed up on attacking movements, poor defensive reads and often just outmuscled, there's not a lot that's promising in that bunch. But I think unlike our forwards, they're not a well credentialed bunch.

Thanks to you all on the fan forum for enduring it all. Hard not to feel sometimes like the tigers are some strange manifestation of our psyche and that their play is inextricably tied to some fundamental chasm in the centre of our collective social structure. That or it's just another footy game.

Thanks champion @watersider - there's a bit of all of us in your comments.

We had a handful of players under 20 playing, plus at least 3 players who are departing in the coming weeks. Those players would know. I was optimistic pre game, but not surprised post game.
They improved this year and will again next year. Benji has done fine imo, no coach would have done much better. Some may have gotten more out of senior players, but then we wouldn’t have blooded as many youngsters as we did.

Defending with so many younger players is tough, let alone with 12 men. Not saying conceding that many points is ok, however the result makes no difference to progress made or next year. I’m excited.

I think a lot of this is cope from our fans that he will be our saviour and in reality it will just be Luke brooks 2.0 where the pressure and expectation will be too much on one player on that much money

Give yourself an uppercut!

People saying Benji did well this year are wrong. I don't care if we have the worst squad in the league, you really have to be doing something wrong to finish dead last. It shouldn't happen. I'm not in the club that advocates his sacking, but this season was an utter failure and he needs to improve.

Adam Reynolds will be in his ear telling him he can own Brisbane, live the lifestyle of a superstar in a one and a half team town.

That hurts, but I’m sure you hope you’re wrong!

Ur kidding ., u think that effort was ok , because there was young kids out there , stupid errors cost us , they just played dum football, so if I was coach after 10 minutes, I would have sent out a message to cut out the shit and start pinning the eels into a corner , NOW if it or not benji , sent that message out is on his shoulders , he in control, that’s what coaching is all about, every week we get the same excuses, but nothing changes,

Interesting how character gets revealed. Both Ice and Stef knew pretty much halfway through the season they were moving on. Ice actually had a real dig and played some of his best footy for us in the back half. Stef completely bottled it. He might be a talented athlete, but he lacks heart, and there is no way he will ever be a forward leader. He will go ok in Melbourne because they’ve got plenty of other leaders, but he’s never going to be SOO material. In the 75th minute with the game on the line, and you look at the guy next to you, and it’s Stef, how confident are you that he will do whatever it takes to win.

Superstar is a label that is earned. It’s earned after years and years of proving yourself at every level, including finals series and excelling at all of them whilst collecting trophies and series wins.
Superstars are the elite.
Calling this kid a superstar because he does the occasional good thing is extremely harmful to his development.

Haha and you think players just respond to the message because you’ve said it? You think they don’t know they dropped too much ball?
Effort wasn’t a problem until after api was binned, and our defense has gone bad in the last few games around 50 mins too. The players can try all they want but if they don’t have the conditioning and experience it’s irrelevant. Galvin throws a few cut out balls and everyone worships him. He loses wrestles, middles tackles etc and it’s because he’s nowhere near as strong as he needs to be. It’s not all times, but many times we fatigue in defense due to age.

I played in a junior team that had 5-10 playing up an age - we got belted. Next year we made the gf and lost to a FG, and that was only 1 year age difference. These guys are giving away 3-4 years of full time nrl conditioning

Well he began twisting and deploying the narrative that we were in a reconstruction year when it became obvious we weren’t going anywhere.

Now he’s heavily into it.

When you listen to him, it’s almost like we have a side that he submits is almost good enough to play in the NRL instead of being in the comp.

Average age of 14 or whatever he uses.

Coaching aside, his messaging needs a lot of management.

Richo has to up the ante on the spin now to recover some decorum.

But I think we are entitled to question a lot of things tonight especially whether the immediate post Lee and Co phase is working. Did we replace one bad regime with another?

If we keep getting the spoon under the emergency expert junta, maybe we need a much more democratic model.

We’ve all seen some good assessments and ideas here from the rank and file.

For example, I had Des as my first grade coach but hats off to the sages who wanted Flanno.

Memory serves, @Tucker didnt want a bar of Benji at least until he’d done a proper apprenticeship and was ready. That was the right call.

There have been many other insights from different people that could have spared us from this utter utter catastrophe.

It’s not hard to get the spoon in the nrl.
