AUSTRALIAN forward Ryan O’Hara is the new Crusaders captain and will lead them for the first time in Friday’s opening engage Super League clash with champions Leeds.

The 29-year-old former Wests Tigers prop, who was the Welsh club’s player of the year in his first season in Super League, takes over from fellow countryman Jace Van Dijk – one of the Celtic players ordered to leave the country because of visa irregularities.

It is nearly five months since Crusaders’ last game and O’Hara, one of only two ever-presents in 2009, is looking forward to getting back into action.

“I can’t wait,” he said.

“It’s been a long and difficult pre-season with plenty of changes.

“But we’ve been trained well and we’re now looking forward to getting out on to the park and playing some footy.”

And in his 3rd game as Captain the Crusaders flog the @#$% out of Salford to get the Welsh side on the board.
Thought he was going to be a Godsend for us but is on par with our worst ever signing, some players respond to a particular coach but obviously he didn't shine for Mr. Sheens.

Well that is not entirely true. He was always injured so Sheens is barely to blame.

I remember seeing him leaving the souths game where we got flogged at Liechardt (the worse moment i've ever had at LO) early. He was behind the sheds and I said.. "why aren't you out there mate? F****** show some of those morons how to make meters!"

He laughed and said mate "ask Sheens… I wana get out there..."

I think he and sheens never really got on. But injuries really hampered his time here.

O'Hara never got on with Royce.

Unfortunately for Ryan he had a major issue with Sheens and Royce and that forever put him in the doghouse with our club and he was never given a true opportunity to make a first grade spot his own.

I think it is a real shame though because with backing we can see that he is a quality prop and could have been good for us but that isnt how it eventuated. Im happy for the big fella because he is one of the nicest and funniest guys you would ever likely meet, good work Ryan.
